Back home to my shop in NY and wanted to get some personal shop time in, did a bit of forging. I forged this integral from 3/4" round W1.

I'm not Sam, but I did stay in a Holiday Inn on my Honeymoon with my first ex-wife ;) McMaster Carr has W1 in round stock. Hope that helps.

You can find W1 drill rod at a number of places. Both www.speedymetals.com and www.metals-depot.com have W1 drill rod along with othe tool steels like A2 , D2, O1 etc. Just do a search on google for "tool steel" and you'll probably find some other sites as well. The only thing is that the compositition on even the charts they show seem to differ quite a bit from what I'd expect W1 to have, but what do I know :D I am also interested as to where most knifemakers get good clean and consistent W1 (and especially W2 for that matter) in round stock. Aldo seems to always be out of it, and I think when he does it's only in flat stock...

BTW, I love the perfect tapers in that blade, the thing is eye candy to me aready! :)
