This knife was forged from a file. I contacted the file manufacturer (actually my friend did) and we were told that the steel is W1 tool steel. My understanding is that W1 is very close in nature to 1095. Both are great for knives.

This knife has a 5 1/2" blade that is 3/16ths thick.

The OAL of the knife is just a tick under 10 1/2"

The blade is clay coated with a nice hamon.

The handle is maroon linen micarta. It is a very deep maroon color, and in some light appears nearly black.

The handle is held into place with 4 steel pins, one handmade mosaic pin and a steel lanyard hole.

The spine is fully file patterned, up to the distal taper.

The sheath is kydex with my own version of Tek-lok. The belt loop can be removed and rotated 90 degrees for horizontal carry, if so desired.

Price - $130 shipped.

I made some knives from files back in the '60's but they never looked this good.:D :D
I was working in a machine shop at Auburn and we had just about every toy there was in those days-all surplus. Surface grinder, shaper, mill, lathe, forge, power hammer-all for the shop use on what ever you wanted to play with.
There were 200 sheets of titanium and 40 6"x8"x12' bars of aluminum that I remember specially just to play with. The steel stock was just about unlimited. All surplus.
Those days of informality are long gone. We could buy dynamite down at a general store at Marvin by signing for it if the owner knew you or if you had good ID.

I love that filework on the spine.

Another extremely nice knife from you Matt. Ted I'm sure you'll be happy with it when it arrives.
