W2 quenching?

I'm reading a lot of mixed info on what to use for quenching a W2 blade. This is my first forged knife, and also first time using W2, so before I heat treated it I wanted to do some digging on how to go about it. I almost just went ahead and water quenched it, but after sifting through threads I'm learnig that this may not me the best idea for thinner material even if it is a water quench steel type. I dont have Parks50 on hand, but if canola or other oils wont do I will wait. Any suggestions? Thanks

I tried two knives with W2 in water. One snapped clean off and the other had some small cracking. Both were garbage. The one i did in 130 degree canola did turn out well.

As stated above its very important to heat cycle the W2 blades. I do stress relief at 1200 hold for 1 hour, ramp to 1600, let it turn black. 1550 turn to black 1500 turn to black. Then run the quench cycle. Some people only run two cycles instead of three. I get much less warp with thin kitchen knives with the cycling.

Best of luck, Fred
