hello everyone

Well, after a long while, this knife is up for sale for several reasons. This was made on commission, and was an evolution of design. It started out as a american tanto, then a habaki was added.. still with a wrapped handle, then what about a tsuba? oh what the heck..why not.. (the customer is never wrong) then why not throw a real handle on there.. and oh by the way the habaki the tsuba and menuki need to be silver... then... after completions.. silence.

So after sending half a dozen emails, and waiting six months, it is up for sale. (That, and my new wife needs books and classes paid for...)

here is the skinny:

15.5" oal 10" blade
forged W2 blade (hybrid polish)
cast and antiqued sterling silver habaki, menuki, and tsuba.
copper seppa
madegascar ebony tsuka
silk ito

I am asking $800 shipped for this knife. if you are interested PM or Email me at Knifemaker87@gmail.com. I prefer paypal but work with other forms of payment as well.

Also, i wanted to mention on the left side of the blade near the top of the kissaki there is a small surface imperfection. It was coming out as i ground then polished the blade, however i was unable to remove it completly. I you want a close-up i would be happy to provide one.

Wow, if you ever come up with a white trash version of that knife I'm in. It's way to elegant to put up with my sorry butt.

Times are tough, people are embarassed by the situations they are in. However, on the flip side everytime I see a tanto I usually yawn and say "Oh another tanto". But in this case, this is one beautiful graceful piece. Its spot on....the ancient ones are definitely smiling over this one. Great job.

Wow, love the WIP pics. It's a shame the customer walked on this one. Great work!

That's a very nice looking knife, is there a saya? Was there any thought about burnishing?

there is no saya on this one. It was supposed to be an american tanto to begin with and the customer was going to have a leather an rayskin sheath made.

Burnishing? what is that?

thanks for all the comments guys. I totally understand about the situations people are in. I just got married, my wife is going to school, and work is being a pain about a raise they promised me.

I appreciated all or your interest and help

Burnishing(mikagi) is taking a steel rod(mikagi-bo) and polishing the shinogi-ji and the mune, the mune at the kissake is exempt, there is a cool thing they do at the kissake which I just spent an hour looking for a picture of but you can see it when you study a sword in person. The mune is important because that's where the sword rides on the web of your hand when you put it away, in the traditional fashion.

I can't believe that this one is still here. If I had the money, it would be mine in a heartbeat. That is some mighty fine craftsmanship there! And look at that hamon!!! Beautiful work, my friend, absolutely first rate! The least I could do is post to move it back up.

I'm going to have to add to the chorus here. Absolutely beautiful. Whoever gets it is going to be very happy in years to come.

I just don't have the money:(

Yet another wonderful piece from this young maker. I can't wait to see what's going to come from his shop in the years to come.

Don't say anything, the wife is sitting behind me. Time to start working on her for a beauty like this. I am holding one Ace. She asked me last week if I wanted to buy a knife because she had some "extra" money and I told her no. Should I just drop this on her, or slowly make the deal?

You aren't kidding! Can you imagine his work 10 years down the line? Unbelievable work and attention to detail! Man, I wish I was made out of money. Like I said, if there was *any* way I could come up with the money, I would buy this in a New York minute. Folks, this is your chance to get a Chris Moss original before he starts commanding $1000.00+ knives! Chris, I'll definitely do my best to own one of your fine pieces as soon as I can!
