Wabi-sabi

I'm much more drawn to the asymmetric patterns such as the serpentine (perfect) stockman above, or say the teardrop jack, than I am to the symmetric patterns such as equal ends. Equal-end senators are OK for dress knives, but there's nothing like serpentine or trapper or especially teardrop patterns to make me stand up and take notice. Even the Barlows grab me in that way.

STeven, LOVE the color of that bone. It's very distinctive and the crisp jigging really makes it stand out.

Robb, I'd like to be clear. I don't own that stockman in bone(although it is stunning, imo), have another one by Ken in white mop. It isn't the pattern that I expect to be symmetrical, it is the blade grinds themselves, and the pure wabi-sabi of a teardrop jack is probably what I don't like about them.

Oh, I see. I agree that symmetrical blade grinds are where it's at. Still love my Harness Jack with the pear shape, though.

This tells me that if we wait around for the perfect knife knife to show up we are in for a long and wasteful wait, but if we buy a knife that is purt'near perfection we will reap benefits. I believe I will order one tonight.....

If it is an Erickson that you will order, that wait will be substantial, but worth it.
