Check this one out, no clay here, just edge-quenched. A nice little zigzag and a little dip at the tip.

Pretty good symmetry on each side.

If you can figure out exactly how that came about, it would be a heck of a signature. Looks cool as a polar bear's butt.

EDIT: did the mystical chicken-bone voodoo ritual I've heard about, have something to do with that?

Yep, you have to quench the red-hot blade in the live body of a virgin. That is, a virgin chicken.

No wait, I mean you have to eat chicken and drink virgin daquiris while you quench it.

Errrr...

Really, I think it was just the process of "Hmmm, is that deep enough? No, maybe a little deeper. Ok, not so deep at the tip, but deeper at the ricasso. Ok, done. No, wait, the spine is still red, dunk the whole thing now."
:)

You can simulate a hamon type line with an edge quench by rocking the blade back and forth on its cutting edge axis causing the quench liquid to vary its contact point with the blade. MAybe you did this without noticing? No matter what it looks good!!

Looks cool, I think your rite, you probably rocked the blade a bit, now can you do it again?:D

Tai Goo had a thread on another forum a couple of years ago where he showed how he got complex hamons using a rig he made to vibrate his quench tank, causing waves. He had some really nice effects.
