When I got home from work at about 7:00 PM it was 54 degrees here in Indianapolis. About an hour after that a line of storms rolled through with lightening and thunder and high winds. And now, a little over an hour after the thunderstorms let up, the temp is down to 37 and its snowing. It's still very windy. We're heading for a low temp of about 10 tonight and a high of 17 tomorrow.

Just goes to show how fast the weather can change. Someone who had decided that today was a good day for a hike since it was so warm could have been in BIG trouble if they had to stay out over night for some reason.

my brother that lives in St.Louis said that the temperature dropped 30 degrees in 2 hours, that is some intense weather, i would hate to be stuck in weather changing like that and not be prepared

Imagine being out hiking when this happened.

On January 22, 1943, at about 7:30am MST, the temperature in Spearfish, SD was −4 °F (−20 °C). The chinook kicked in, and two minutes later the temperature was 45 °F (7 °C) above zero. The 49-degree rise (27 °C) in two minutes set a world record that still holds. By 9:00am, the temperature had risen to 54 °F (12 °C). Suddenly, the chinook died down and the temperature tumbled back to −4 °F (−20 °C). The 58-degree drop (32 °C) took only 27 minutes.

Freak storms are one thing, but I live in a place where weather changes as fast as a cow with a BB in its butt, and it happens all the time.

Theres a saying in Nova Scotia and i dont know if anyone else says it but us.."If you dont like the weather wait five minutes"

This makes caming intresting, winds pick up and die down all the time, temprature varries alot, one day -16 C with a -27 windchill, then the next morning its above freezing

The valley i live in is really bad for odd percipitation. Full blown snow storm for 10 minutes then as bright and blue skied as all get out.

The only way to be safe camping here is to pack for the worst and haul all that weight

They say it around here, and up in NE Ohio where I grew up too. Sounds like it's much more literal where you're at though. Things don't really change that fast here in Indiana in my opinion. . . Not counting tonight. There were occasionally some pretty quick shifts in Ohio, but I don't think I remember ever experiencing anything quite like the weather we're having tonight.

In Colorado this is a common occurence. The motto is if you don't like the weather wait 5 minutes and it will change...or something along those lines. Sounds like that motto certainly holds true in many places!

I have been fishing in the mountains where it was literally sunny no clouds then boom stormy and snowy then sunny clear skies again all with in 15-30 minutes no joke! Weather like this is very common especially in higher elevations over major passes. When camping in the summer months it can be so hot during the day, but come sun down and early morning it can get very cold.
