Gotcha. The abraded parts of the sheath in your close up pic as well as the tip, where we can see past the surface dye and patina suggest veg tan cowhide to me. But just a guess though….

Could be. I was just going to throw the sheath away but I thought I should keep it in case a pattern needs to be made for a new one.

I wouldn't throw it away. Its worth a lot more to a collector that way than with a modern replacement sheath.
