I normally carry my clip-knives in my right front pocket, but the other day I was wearing chinos with some shallow pockets. I could have clipped my OD-2, a Drifter or maybe my Buck Nobleman, but it felt like a Spyderco Native kind of day. So I tried waistband carry for the first time ever (!?!) and clipped my Native 1 just behind my right hip.

I found it to be a very comfortable, convenient and discreet carry option. Plus, I’ve discovered that the Native’s clip is ideal for this method. Actually, the Native is very well-designed for waistband carry—nice and flat.

I know a lot of folks do the waistband carry, but it’s something I’ve previously dismissed. Goes to show that it’s good to try new things… you could be missing out!

I find waistband carry to be pretty comfortable as well. The only reason that I try not to do it is because it seems to other people that the blade is concealed for a martial purpose.

i do it all the time with my delica. i wear a suit at work so its not an issue, if i have to take the jacket off i move it to my pocket. when not at work i never wear tucked in shirts so its not an issue on the weekend. with the black clip it is hardly noticeable. i a thinking of trying this with my kopa once i find the clip.

I prefer my knife clipped in my pocket when I wear jeans, but I often clip it IWB when I wear athletic shorts. I like it clipped just left of center up front.

I never try to conceal my knives. They aren't illegal and I won't live anywhere that they are.

I do clip IWB if I am in shorts without pockets though.

I just find it really comfortable and it's helped me out a couple of times but yea I do occasionally carry in my pocket, but usually its just because I wanna show off a new knife :D haha

I carry one just right of center everyday in addition to my main EDC which rides RFP. I do it just so I can carry multiple knives and so some of my other knives get some carry time. I find it comfortable and usually don't even feel it. I also carry a Leo Rec PF9 with a pocket clip IWB just left of center all the time.

I carry my 2ndary EDC, a Tasman Salt, IWB at about 3:00. It disappears there, both visually and in regards to comfort. It's not about concealing it though. My RFP is taken up with my main EDC, and my LFP holds my wallet and keys, and if I had a knife clipped in that pocket, I'd never be able to pull my wallet out.

carful with non rust resistant knives, I have rusted a couple knife that way from sweat, which is essentially salt water, getting on the blades. But I'm in Arizona and walk about a mile and half to school every day so I sweat on it a lot

Great, and precisely what knife do you take to school with you?

I find it too uncomfortable. But to each his own.

There are many schools where knives are permitted. Can knee jerk reactions get a facepalm?

I took, and take, a knife with me to class everyday. Usually a Sebenza or an Umnumzaan.

It is entirely legal to carry knives at many schools.

IWB carry:

1. Keeps the knife out of the way.

2. Practically 0% chance of the clip getting snagged and/or broken, especially if wearing a belt.

3. Doesn't work with tip-up carry! I don't know how you're doing it with the Native.

I carry tip up IWB every day for the last 3 or 4 years and never had a problem. In fact the 1 time I did have a problem and a knife partially open, it was tip down. It works fine for me but I also don't use liner or frame locks much.

colleges you mean? Adult schools? I am interested if any high schools or below allow students to carry knives both by policy and legally.

Here in California you can take a slipjoint under 2.5" into high schools and below. Anything over that limit or has a locking mechanism is illegal.

Both colleges/universities and high schools. In PA the determination (as it appears to me) seems to be left to the discretion of the school boards.

But, I did go to high school in a town in the middle of the sticks...
