Waited too long, but now which LG 21?

Well crap. I really need to try a Seb, and it's driving me crazy. I've grown quite a collection, but still nothing more expensive than ZT's/Benchmade's/upper end Spyder's, etc.

Looking at a standard plain lg21, 25 w/micarta, both s35vn. But I've also got an eye on a bunch of LG21's in Damascus with color graphics. They just look too tantalizing.

It will be carried, but probably not beat as I tend to carry two knives most of the time. One for the "whatever" type jobs, and a nicer one for when I need that perfect sharp blade. I guess I'm wondering if the Damascus holds an edge at least close to that of s35vn (which I absolutely love). Or is it really just for show?

I'm leaning toward the Damascus with anno graphics. Found some new-old stock online that I really like. Born in the 2011-2014 range. But I'm guessing prices are still around the born dates list price, so not exactly a bargain, but seems fair.

Sound off.

I've heard that damascus holds the edge as good or better than the s35vn, but never worse. And, last year or the year previous, all heat treats on knives were bumped up slightly.

The stainless damascus CRK use is a combo of AEB-L and 304 stainless. That makes for perfectly good blade, I have been very pleased with the two kitchen knives I have in AEB-L. :)

For a user, definitely try a micarta inlaid 21 or 25. The micarta inlays really set the Sebenza aside from anything else out there, and both the 21 and 25 are great working knives.

I don't have a 25; but based on my experience with a large 21, I'd say go with the micarta 25. (I purchased a large 21 first, and was unimpressed...borderline disinterested. I took the advise of some forum members, and tried a micarta 21 - I do like it better.
I can offer no opinion on the UG damascus models.

Thanks for the info Haze, I too have had really good performance out of AEB-L with my Richmond Artifex.

Been good for me, holds an edge pretty good and easy to care for. Very glad to hear that's the make up of my new small 21.

Show me pics of the UG's, I'll give my opinions.

I think the one I'm most interested in is this one. Sorry about the pic, it's the best one I could download. Just a basic ladder damascus. Not super fancy, but kind of cool to me. My biggest mental battle is whether to put the money into the flair, or just go with a plain jane large 21. I think it's a 2011, so I don't know what changes have been made to the newest off the line.

Since you're prepared to spend the money on a Sebenza, why not get what you want and go with the Damascus Unique????
You need to find if the Damascus will perform to your standards. I've got a few in Damascus and IMO, the Damascus holds a edge as well as the S35VN. Some don't think they're as good at edge retention as S35VN, YMMV.
You're gonna find that just because a CRK is older doesn't mean they will be at a bargain price. Some of the older CRK's bring above current prices.
What I find with the Damascus is that using it brings a smile and is a pleasure to have in hand. It also brings comments if I'm around folks.

I say go for the Damascus unique! The Damascus blades take a very keen edge and hold it just fine, and they are really easy to keep razor sharp with just stropping. The unique pattern gives the knife as a whole that extra something special and will make your coworkers jealous:)

Visit the Exchange. ;)

I've actually been watching the exchange much more closely since I made the decision to buy. But for me, the biggest decision is not where to go for desert, but what flavor? Big decisions are usually much easier for me than the little ones. [emoji16]. Crap, I'm a basket case. ;)
