Hey, I'm new here and would like to introduce myself to everyone.

I recently put in an order for a m-43 18" from a new shipment arriving sometime in the next 14 days or so. I had an option of getting one with elk-antler, so I did.

Does anyone here have one of their khuks handles done with the elk?

pics?

Hey bootmaster, welcome aboard. No elk handle, but I do have an 18" M43 and believe it is one of the most graceful of the HI blades. In fact, it's so pretty I have not yet had the heart to sharpen it up. Yours, with the elk handle, ought to be a real winner. Show us some pics when it arrives.

Welcome to the HI Forum Cantina/Psycho Ward BG!!!! :D

The only antler handled HI I have is a Kumar Karda but I haven't taken any pix. I've been waiting on a good day to take some pix of the Ultimate Fighter Yangdu sent me a while back and one thing or another keeps putting that off as well.

That should be a spectacular looking M43.

Welcome, BootmasterGeneral

I know what you mean about not wanting to do the "full" test of the khuk.

Too damned pretty.
oh I'll do a thorough quality control test like Uncle Bill recommends, but cutting nails and such?! I hope she's real pretty alright... pretty deadly[/maniacle laugh]

the count-down begins....

BG, I have recently received an elk handled HI blade.
The antler is from Montana. How it arrived in Nepal, I do not know.
There is a senior & much respected member of this forum, who incidentally, not only hails from Montana, but also rescued my sorry ass from certain oblivion. This gent may have some idea as to the provenance of the antler.
Pic below.

Welcome BMG:) Congrats on your first (of many to come) khukuri!!
There's magic in these blades. Enjoy!

I don't get to welcome as many people as I'd like to anymore, but consider yourselves welcomed from me if I missed you!

Oh man, I want one too! How do I go about getting one? I like special handles especially ones make of some type of horn. I just picked up a Kukri from an estate. No idea if its a HI or not but I will post pics of it when it gets here. Is there anyway to tell?

Thanks much,

Billy (HI-LESS in NY)

I do have this though...

Wow lots of new meat around the psycho ward lately. Welcome all. Just wanted to address this idea of babying your HI khukuri. I got my first one, a Chiruwa AK by Kumar in October. Immediately I field tested the HELL out of it. It hurt me to do it sometimes, but these blades are top notch. My testing consisted of chopping hardwood (oak and dogwood), prying boards on a picnic table, and I even chopped a penny. I haven't done any nails because as a woodworker I've trained myself to search carefully for them and avoid at all costs. I just don't see the point. I guess I don't see the point of chopping a penny either, but let me tell you that my Kumar blade severed that penny cleanly in one chop and the blade wasn't damaged in the slightest by any of my tests. While prying I put every bit of my weight on the handle and the knife didn't bend in the slightest. Actually one of the boards on the picnic table popped right off of its SCREWS. These blades are TOUGH STUFF!!!!! Don't baby them. Besides, now that you are all infected you'll get more.
