Waiting for @#*%$&'n Emerson Knives?!!!!!

JBravo,

You have gotten an honest answer from Emerson. As the Zen saying goes "no action, is an action".

Suffice to say, on the custom side of the house Emerson has put himself in a hole that he chooses not to pull himself out of. While we can guess at and debate these reasons all day. Only Emerson can answer the question and he chooses not to do so in a public forum.

So we go back to the two simple choices I wrote in an earlier post:

1) Stick with your order till the bitter end.
Accept the excuses year after year.

2)Cancel your order, take the money and buy a better knife.

Guys, you have to be honest with yourselves.
It should be very clear to everyone involved.
That Emerson does not care about you or your knife. He has no intentions of ever honoring his delivery times. When he speaks to you he will tell you what ever you want to hear to pacifiy you until it is time for the next excuse.

Realisticly, who knows what they are doing a year from today. Now if you can't answer that how can you expect to know what you are doing 4-5 years from today. Unless of course you are getting out of Jail or your Military commitment ends on that day.

So when Emerson or any other maker starts telling you 3, 4, 5 years and longer. At best it is no more than a guess.

What they should do, is take your name, tell you they can not guarantee when this knife will be made. However, they will call you when they are ready to start the knife. If at that time you can tell them you still want it or can refuse it. Either way, neither you or the knifemaker is on the hook.

This is probably the most fair and equitable way of handling a multi-year wait.

Many of these makers who have multi-year waits would be amazed at how many of the address, phone numbers, etc. that they have are no longer valid. How many of their orders will not go filled as these customers have gotten married, have kids, have a big new house, no longer interested in knives, etc.

At this point you have been given the opportunity to decide between need and want.

The question is "Do I really need this knife and do I want to put up with all the BS that this maker is giving me.

I know there are a lot of you out there who have orders and do not want to speak up. As you feel this may cause you to lose your order. Congratulations, you just made yourself a victim!

Hey Les, its not personal-just to get that out ahead of time. I totally understand that you as a businessman don't like doing business with Ernie, I couldn't either. I will tell you for an absolute fact (because I have heard it first hand from guys at the shows), that many of those screaming for an Emerson custom are doing so to turn the knife around and make some quick money. My math was at the top end-ES1M-550-to a dealer 950- to Japan over two thousand, maybe not the norm, but it has happened. I'll give you the initials J.A. and D.F. from SoCal. These are two people that I have done extensive business with (one's one of my best friends, and well, you know about the other). If you got knives from them, they were probably offered to me first. You stated in another forum about selling a CQC5 for $2,500. The first one I had went to you after I had it a few days because I couldn't justify spending $500 on it. You also stated that you have people selling you their customs 30 seconds after they get them. Les, I understand that you are in business to make money-thats fine. The problem I have is with the "profiteers" who only want the knives to try to double their money. They are not maintaining inventory, paying fees and taxes, advertising or incurring in other business expense, they are simply trying to make a very quick easy buck. I still stand by my statement that I feel bad for all those who can't get an Emerson custom for their personal consumption. I am one of those who like many suffer from the inability to get them to keep and use. To also clarify, I am not friends with Ernie, I have met him four times at shows. I have never spoke to him at home, or on the phone. I was stating that I understand how this happens. I also was clear that I don't think that anymore orders should be taken by Emerson. As far as my intro, I think my profile says as much as I'd like. If I see you at a show I will definately introduce myself. I am still professionally active enough that I don't want my bio plastered over the net. I am not a blind supporter of Emerson, but I have seen how these things can become so personal. I am an active blade user, and I demand first class gear. I carry a Emerson customs daily off duty, and while working in the corporate world. I just hate to see them become a commodity instead of a tool.

He who advances is sure of heaven-He who retreats of eternal damnation.

I am going to give my opinion even if it makes people mad. If the CQC6 is so popular why doesn't he make a production version of it. Personally I would not WASTE my time waiting for it. If I had the money I would buy a Sebenza(?) Or a Cold Steel Gunsite Voyager.

I've seen some pretty lame statements in these forums but this is tops. I know a couple of people with $25 deposits a couple years on the list. Sure, cancel your order and take back your $25 deposit and buy a better knife with it. Geez. When and if you get it knowing it will likely return you big bucks, that, has about the dumnbest statement i've seen here to date. Does it hurt to tie up $25 for that kind of return? What kind of better knife can Les sell you for your $25 deposit money. Maybe I'll take a couple. The mans business practices certainly do stink but who in their right mind would cancel an order with very little invested considering at what the knives sell for in the aftermarket. Hang in there and hope the Emerson insanity hangs on and you actually get the knife. Then sell it and get a bunch of better knives.

On the other hand I should have mentioned one item that I Believe is a prety stinking business practice is taking all of the deposits he has. If you can get a couple thousand people to send you $25 or more each and hang then up 6 years at the returns the stock market has been returning why bother making knives?
Bet that deposit account is a nifty little cash cow.
