Waiting for the dive

How long have you been using your Boars hair brush? If it is fairly new, it will soften up a bit over time, the ends of the hairs will start to split, yet it will keep some backbone at the handle end of the knot. The big advantage of a badger brush is that it maintains more water, my silvertip isn't much softer than my broken in boars hair brush was

My Omega brush isn't new...I've been using it for at least 15 or 18 months (I don't shave daily, but I used to face lather with brush and soap even when I used to shave with cartridges).
Apart from softness, the ability to retain water (and heat) is what pushes me to find something "better". Or at least try.
I'm determined not to change more than one factor of my shaving routine (brush, soap, blades, razor) at a time, and I feel like a new brush is first on my list.
I will keep you updated though :)

If you have been using it for 15+ months and face lathering it should be broken in by now. Another thing I can suggest is washing it with a good quality shampoo and a bit of hair conditioner. It might soften up the bristles a bit while you find a badger brush.

Thanks for the advice. I will try to see if the shampoo/conditioner treatment helps a bit.
It did break in with time and use, it's just that it doesn't retain much water/foam/heat, and maybe I can get a softer one as well.
