So until they hit the market I'm gonna use this. I got it at a Japanese store the other day since my wife has damn near destroyed my other kitchen knives.

The one in west lake center in seattle, but I think they also have 'em in alderwood.

get your wife her own knives and knife block.
put yours in a nice structured knife drawer (careful-like) with a dye pack.

There's an idea :D

Have you been to the Epicurean Edge in Kirkland? Place is awesome. That is the physical location of bladegallery.com

No. Would it be worth the drive down from Arlington?

Yeah it's pretty cool. Hit it up if you're ever around. Great food and bars all around it too in DT Kirkland. :)

I ended up having to get my own, ie don't touch knives for the kitchen too!,
Oh your nt supposed t let em sit in the dishwater overnight?
I put em in the dish washer for you.
I tried to sharpen it for you
It almost cut through the bones before it broke.

Showed this pic to my mom (she still wanted me to explain what type of kitchen knives I was talking about) and said that this was a santoku- She told me "no, it's a cheap kitchen knife someone drilled holes in, now stop speaking Japanese"
Some will never learn.
Nice knife by the way, use it in good health.

to some people, all knives are just cheap knives. they would never understand why one knife is worth $1, or $10, or $50, or $100 ... or ...

as such, they seem to think knives can be used up, and are possibly the only too for a job. chopping rocks, digging in the garden, prying, chopping ice on the walk... unless that's your good carbide screwdrivers :)

best tip ever: buy someone their OWN tools, and it's their job to take care of them. never allow them to borrow your tools unattended with replacement understood on damage if they steal them, in particular.

a dye pack... that's a booby trap :]

Yeah, some won't understand. Kid in the local scout troop was praising his winchester knife, and called my Benchmade 530 a "cheap overpriced toy". Later that day the winchester failed and closed on his hand... yeah.
Turned him onto bencmade and Ka-bar though.
I saw a guy with a cheap Ka-bar F/U ripoff chopping ice, it broke.

I spent the early part of my knife buying life buying cheap crappy knives. In retrospect I wish I would have bought more quality knives. I'd still have them instead of telling people about this crappy knife I use to have.

Hey is there anyone out there that has pictures of the new kitchen knives that are coming out?

my first couple knives were what i or my parents could find as gifts... the swiss army clone was useful in the sprouts, but was sorta crappy at the same time, yet sharp - cut myself good on that once. still have it, in a box in the way back. found some extremely abused leather stacked handle fixed blade - screw on butt cap - cleaned it up, but not much of an edge holder "used up" but mine. also have a Case knife. very limited hardening, can't keep an edge now, but it was my first locking knife, all metal, aluminum scales. a taste of things to come. after that? well, i was buying Becker by the end of HS :>

as for the kitchen knives, if you look closely at Ethan in some video by Average Iowa Guy you'll note he even talks about a key feature.

Is there some reason not to make her cook with the BK5? Think she'd have a tough time breaking that. My set of kitchen knives is fully warrantied for life against any and all breakage. Just need to still have the handle, and they'll replace it for me.

Yeah I've seen the videos, but I didn't know if anyone had snagged a picture of it or not. I think it was one of the first videos Ethan did a full run down of the knife. Or maybe it was the ESEE GTG video where he did it. Either way he did a run down of it.

IMO there is no reason to spend a bunch of money on kitchen knifes when there a still great ones available that won't break the bank. It's just the ones that we get for me she tends to use and break them some how :(

I was the same way, bought a bunch of cheapos before the realization that I might as well have the best.
Inexpensive and tough kitchen knives- Henkels has been good to me. Steel right up, not too expensive, and will bend before breaking.

sounds like a good punk band :D

btw, that knife just looks cool, and even I would have to take over kitchen duties with that bad boy..

I like it a lot!! :thumbup::thumbup:

It actually cuts very well. One thing I like to do to 'test' a kitchen knife is see how it does with carrots and onions. Most of my kitchen knifes start to cut the carrot, but before it's all the way through it just breaks the carrot and pops it off. This knife will cut all the way through the carrot without the popping off. And with the onions I like to see how thin the slices I can get and how well it chops 'em up into small pieces. This knife actually does very well with both tests. I'm anxious to see how well the new kitchen knife from Ethan does. :D
