I too have recently become disabled,Rheumatoid, degenrative disc disease, astio arthritis.Im 35.I had been unable to work at my arts in 6 months but thanks to new meds Im gearing back up.I have re-equiped my entire shop to work around my handicaps.I have adapted all my tools for ergonomics and joint stress reduction.Set up proper bench heights to be used with back support stools, got a larger mill for scale removal and surfacing, got a better plasma torch(50amp) for cutting, replaced many tools with ergonomic ones, and many other small things.Have you thought about learning to engrave? If your problems are centered around your back, engraving should be easy to work around and be low stress on your body.I recommend Steve Lindays engraving system. He has a wonderful forum at EngravingForum.com.It may give you an outlet when your back wont allow you to do the heavier work.Plus its darn fun.

Hope you recover fast! I have DDD myself so I know the pain. There are no adequate words to describe it. I have to go in every six mo's for steroid injections just to function.

Don't push things and take it easy. Nobody gives you any points for hurting so don't try to tough it out.

Positive thoughts going your way!

Sounds like me 9 years ago. Recovery took longer than I thought, these four walls closed in awfully fast! Take your time, don't rush a thing. Do EXACTLY what your doctor tells you to do. No shortcuts, period! You have nothing to prove to anyone!

The first thing I did was some file work on a spine. It was almost eye level. No stooping or bending. We all have to adjust.
