Waki Alternative?

Why would your friend want to carry a machete or a waki into combat? You usually try to reduce weight and not carry unnecessary objects... I guess he knows better since he has been there 3 times already.

JParanee great collection of hawks. nice deer also but that Hartsfield is a real work of art. he's been at it at least since the 70s.are you a black powder cat also? sorry i'm sidetracking the post.

I'm still trying to convince him not to take a wakizashi, but ultimately, it's not my decision. I understand there are tons of better choices and that logically, his bayonet (yes, they're still issued) and a nice 'hawk would be ideal. I even mentioned the CRKT Hisshou after reading this thread. But he's got his heart set on something with a little longer blade. As far as his history with swords and such, there is none. He has advanced knife skills, but nothing in terms of long blades.

A Combat Machete is shorter, but on par for gladius size. No two handed action, but it'll chop and thrust quite nicely without being heavy or taking up much space. It's also super inexpensive meaning that he can save his money for some other gear instead of blowing it on something he probably won't end up using. :D
