On a scale of 1-10, what level of sharpness would those of you who have received your waki's rate your blades? I've got 2 and I'd give them both about a 7. Sharp enough to cut, given the power and weight behind them, but no where near shaving sharp, and a little ragged when slicing paper. Any grinders want to quote me a price for for a full on convex razor job for a waki?

Unable to shave and ragged on paper is more like a 5 on my scale. Shaving sharp and cleanly slicing paper would be about a 7, and hair splitting more like a 9.

I'd put my waki at about a 6.5 on that scale - it could definitely cleanly slice paper, and is able to shave, although not very well. My m9le was more like a 7, and the typical edges I put on when I sharpen stuff I'd say is around an 8. I don't have the patience or skill to make hair-whittling-sharp edges.

I'm curious how much variation we'll see in what people think of their edges, but I feel the 1-10 scale is inherently flawed, because one person's definition of "truly sharp" will vary quite a bit from another's. Sharp enough to shave arm hair is nowhere near as sharp as is possible.

I dunno. I am quite happy with the sharpness, but they are not as sharp as my knives when I get done with them. If it wont shave, it isnt sharp.

The Wakis are sharp enough to effortlessly pop arm hairs, thats for sure.

I was pleasantly surprised. Swamp Rat seems to be stepping up their game, sharpness-wise, and I love it.

I agree, my WAKI is quite sharp enough for a sword. I was also happy with how sharp it was.

Great job on these for sure!!!!:cool:

Sharp enough.

I am right on with MM. 6.5 or 7.

It can shave fairly well, and cleanly slice paper. I will do a review later tonight.

Mine cuts paper no problem--I sliced a sheet 3 times right out of the box. I've been working too much to know, but I assume it will destroy wood just as well.

I would give mine about a seven as well. Personally i think that that is perfect for a sword/chopper. Too sharp and your edge is too thin IMO.

mine's ok. maybe 5 or 6. it can kinda shave sorta. if this were a sword that i would use for fighting or something it would need a serious reprofile. the edge and primary bevel are really thick. my type XV longsword is sharper

It's important to gauge sword sharpness for swords and not what you would expect from a folder. But if it's having difficulty slicing paper, I'd say it's slightly on the dull side. Of course, I expect there to be some variation like this in a production item.

I think that for a 'Semi-Custom Production Knife' company you should expect the best. That's what I got from Swamp Rat.

Why hasn't anybody given me any crap for the shot of Arnold? ;)

My Waki came sharp enough to chop and slash brush. Of course, after I cleaned it up, I touched it up a bit.

It's ok, and not bad for a sword. I might get it to pop hairs with some pressure, but with 2 of these, I'm thinking about getting one of these done to a lazers edge.
