Wal - Mart Native

well...my wifes native was bought at wally world and it has s30v steel
and shes loves it
tyrantblade

Its one of the best steels thats out there and its a steal of a deal. GET IT!

It is a great knife at an awesome price...you just have to watch out for that S30V super steel going "chippy" on you. Mine ate some plastic bands, carpet runner, and envelopes with no problems. I cut down a few appliance boxes with it (no staples in them at all) and I lost massive chunks of the edge. Still pretty peeved about that.

I love my Native, and at $40.00 I think it is one of the best values around.

Just a little heads-up, but in my travels I have noticed that the Wal-Mart Corp. has been changing their knife offerings at many of their stores from their traditional knife case of many brand offerings to knives in blister packs hanging on display shelves, and a mighty smaller offering at that. I have yet to see the Native hanging on a wall in a blister pack. If you have a desire for a Golden Native at a WallyWorld price you might consider not putting that purchase off much longer.

Good point, I have seen the new blister packs and they aren't worth looking at! :thumbdn:

Really is no such thing as a "Wal-Mart Native". Knife is the exact same plain edge FRN/S30V C41 Native everyone else is selling. It's an excellent value for the money, no matter where you purchase it.

Ducktaper - Spyderco lists the Native as being available in "clam pack" packaging, so imagine if their deal with Wal-Mart is still in effect, and W-M wants to change their knife displays to "self service", Spyderco would just supply it to them packaged that way.

I consider the Native probably the best bang for the buck. Buy it, you'll like it.

Nonsense! Tell me it isn't so! I bought mine for $60 before they appeared in WM. If it cost more it just has to be better!:D ss.

You're right, Deacon. I have seen them so packaged at military base uniform stores in blister packs, and have been for quite some time.

This knife had the sharpest out-of-box edge of any factory knife I've had. My only complaint is the clip edge is a bit sharp (stamped metal.) I took it hiking and wanted to clear a bunch of blackberry vines from growing over the trail. The knife went through the vines in one swipe each -- but the clip made a hotspot. I might just take the clip off.

Gator- you should be able to smooth out the sharp edges with a Dremel and a sanding drum or by hand with sand paper, but it will take more time and effort.

Or if you are a knuckle dragger like me, don't have a dremel, and plan to use it hard, just use a metal file. :D

I originally bought it to thin it out -- after reading all the talk about very thin knife edges in SV30. The dang thing was so sharp I have to dull it first before I can take a stone to it. :) It's a small enough knife I don't think the clip is necessary. I'll probably just take it off. I find with small knives the clip makes it easier to lose them without noticing.

Overall though, I think this is a great little knife, and well worth the money.
