Walked into a super market yesterday...

I live in Louisiana and around here 4 out of 5 men in the supermarket would also have knives on them. The only comments I've ever gotten have been from curious people who want to know what kind it is, how much it costs, and where they can get one. Of course Louisiana isn't called Sportsman's Paradise for nothing, just about everyone here hunts or fishes and spends time outdoors.

That is an extremely cool little blade. Looks like it would be an outstanding small game knife. What steel did you use?

Thanks. The steel is CPM M4 @ 64Rc, with a nice thin hollow grind. It looks like a scalpel and cuts like one too. (The slice on my thumb proves it.)

I've walked into walmart with a ten inch bowie on my hip, never even got a dirty look.
and I live in kali.

People who work in the produce department of the grocery I usually go to all carry fixed knives; I think the store provides cheap ones for them.

I dread moving to Massachusetts for their knife laws, I like Oklahoma because I've never had a problem here the folding knife size limits seem to be more of something that they'll "tack on" if you get busted doing somethin stupid (illegal)

This kind of thing is why I moved to the Inland Northwest. Things are calibrated differently. Here people are hardly concerned about handguns, let alone knives.

There's a restaurant near me that gives a 10% discount if you're open-carrying.

I edc'd my rc3 on my hip on the molle back for about a month with only about 3 comments, 2 were positive. Carried it for another two months with my leatherman sheath bolted onto the rc3 sheath with no comments at all. Of course it had gotten colder and my jacket covered the handle later on. I'm continually surprised by people, even in the urban areas of this state either being open minded or minding their own business.

The one not positive comment was a statey that asked to see it, wondered about the length, which I told him, and in the same sentence that it was legal. Bear in mind this was in the middle of the North end of Hartford. I would have questioned me if I were him.

FYI don't forget to take it off it you are up in Mass...

Well, in my experience, as long as you are comfortable & easy-going, it doesn't bother people. Now, if you're going around, looking every which way, scowling & looking uneased, & nervous..then it's going to unnerve people. Most people don't have a problem with it, in my experience, so long as it is worn openly, with causual confidence, and a person doesn't go around bullying or harrassing people. A knife is a tool--I'm more afraid of an ice-pick or screw-driver. A hammer. Pencils--a classmate stuck one in my leg when I was just a little runty kid, I learned from experience.

Nah, I've trained in MMA (mixed-martial-arts) for several years--I'm more intimidated by more simple implements. Screw-drivers, hammers, mallets, broken bottles. In my own experience, it shows when a person wears a knife but is not comfortable with it, it clearly shows. A friend of mine goes everywhere (almost everywhere) with a folding-knife & multi-tool on his hip. It never bothers anyone. He never bothers anyone. He's friendly, comfortable, and clearly at ease. It's when someone acts uneasy, or nervous, or seems as if they were up to no good--that it will unnerve people.

That knife is hansom, btw, I've never seen anything like it. Looks alot like a bird/trout type of knife. :) You'd likely need a customized-sheath for such a tool. There are many makers here, many of them have been kind enough to offer to help me with my sheath problems, maybe they can help you.

i've gone back to OC'n a fixed blade. totally legal in FL, but alot of LEO's are NOT aware of that. i went to walmart, today, had a BM Presidio (fixed blade version) strapped on. i got atleast 3 weird stares (that i noticed). planned on being contacted by LEO, on my way out. i've totally lost concern for it, these days.

i seriously feel that refraining from doing something TOTALLY LEGAL, that you want to, simply because you are afraid of public perceptions or harassment from LEO's that do not understand the law threatens everything our founding fathers sacrificed. i have an Ontario SP42 on order and i plan on OC'n everywhere. if i have to wear orange, for a day or two, then call a lawyer, i will. to me, that's a smaller price to pay than to let some fascist bully me.

of course, i have it a little easier - when i explain they're mistaken and it's not illegal, if they pull the old sefl righteous "oh, so what? you a cop now?" all i have to say is "well, actually, YES, but you don't need to be to own a statute book. speaking of which, you might want to re-read chapter 790" oh yea! wzup, now? :D

I've had the same experience.

I carry a fixed blade on my belt everyday in my travels around Connecticut,

...it has never been an issue.

I've had a fixed blade on me a few times and forgot about it. Never had anyone ever say a word.

Now I have had someone go off on me more than once for carrying a cell phone! I was standing in line to pay for some gas I just pumped one day. Right when I was paying the cashier my cell phone started to ring. I never even answered it when the lady behind me started ranting and raving about people with cell phones. She was verbally bashing me so hard I wanted to just take a swing at her. I politely just walked out and back to my car without saying anything.

Point is if your not doing anything illegal, I wouldn't worry about what someone else might think. There is always someone who isn't going to like something. In the state of Ohio it is legal to carry a cell phone, and it is legal as far as I know to carry a knife in the open. May not be politically correct, but it's not illegal. I don't want to purposely upset people but on the other hand I'm not going to be worried about walking into a store with my knife on because I just came from the woods and forgot to take it off.
