Since I survived a four hour walk at 300 lbs, I figured this was survival if not true wilderness. If not, I'm sure I'll hear about it. I went over to the Southeast end of the island and walked the hiking trails along the river and marsh.

It's amazing what you can see if you look up!

Took a break at this observation deck.

Followed the trail inland a bit.

It was good to get out.

I realize how lame this is compared to the great stuff some of you guys post, but at my age and condition, even this is an adventure nowadays.

Good for you then bro. Looks like a fantastic day to get about!

Your pics are never lame Vic, what kind of pack is that you have ?

Its a $14 Outdoor Products butt pack from Walley World. The water bottles came with it. Been looking hard at getting a Maxpedition Fatboy.

Yeah Maxpedition have been bringing some really cool gear out just lately !

Gawd that's some lush greenery. Thanks for providing a little variety for a desert rat. Great post.

Thanks, HDW, you are my hero. Walking down into the canyon and back out. You inspired me get off my fat rear and do more outside stuff. At this weight, it hurts, but I'm working on that. Yes it is especially bright green this time of year here. It was just one of those perfect days that should not be wasted. :D

'Inspiring'
maybe even, 'Lush/tropical', to my untrained eye:eek:

those are the adjectives that come to mind first, for me at least:)
not sure 'lame' computes! looks like a healthy landscape for some good wandering
keep'em rollin'!;)

..can't help but notice that the two recent threads with great pics, both seem to be packing ResC/'Dogs, if I'm not mistaken.
Nice attachment system on the sheath, seems very rugged and utilitarian, and very clean lines.

looks liek a place where u can survive sitting on ur ass from the coconuts that fall and crack open on ur head

hahaha

gawd i'd wanne be there :p

HD,

GREAT Pics! Thanks for sharing. Made me sick for a good nature walk just looking at them. The place is beautiful, where is it?

Looks familiar. Last year I had an emergency appendectomy in St. Mary's GA. My recovery was walking a very similar area.
Since they gutted me like a fish, cut through all the stomach muscle, and I weigh 240, I know what you mean.
The humidity down there sucks the energy out of you quickly!

Great pics, and nothing lame about it! And the pack don't look bad for $14, might have to check em out!:thumbup:

Being in the outdoors is NEVER lame. Beats the crap out of sitting in a chair watching CRAP on the television. Beautiful pics, thanks for posting. P.S - Those pics are of the best exercise you can get - you walked through nature and enjoyed it while obtaining the benefits of exercise. I would much rather do that than walk on a treadmill or something.

Blythe Island Regional Park. it's a little island on the coast of Georgia near Brunswick. About 30 miles north of Florida. It was mild and not too humid today. I'm glad some of you enjoyed the semi-tropical terrain. It makes me feel like it was worth the walk. Technically, its against the rules of the park, but I always carry a blade or two. The Park Supt. knows it and knows me. He knows I'm not there to destroy what I love, just clear the trails a little. There is a nice campground and boat ramp there. Good place to visit if you're heading down US 17 or I-95 to FL. I live on this island and love it.

Well thank you HD. I'm afraid I've already gained all the weight back and I'm going to have to do the GC again just to to get it off. (Aw shucks. :D) Setting a highly desireable goal.....it's the one thing I know that almost always works for me.

This pic, taken about a month before the GC trek, will give you an idea how stubborn I got during training:

Those are my good toes w/o the moleskin. ;)
