Walking the dog

"...trying to hone his skills as a deer dog" What did you mean by this? do you use the dog to track or run the deer?

I'd love to hear a general overview of hunting regulations and styles in your country. Nice no.1 is it surpressed? (I thought I'd read somewhere that hunting with suppressed rifles is common in NZ) ?

Anyway, great pictures all around.

RDOG....My chesapeake has a great nose and will indicate deer when he smells them..A dog that runs deer down is useless in our bush unless you are a super athlete...We hunt deer and pigs 365 days a year for free..They are feral pests here and we can harvest as many as we like..We dont hunt from tree stands as this is considered unethical, but hunting with dogs or spotlighting at night is not...yup, crazy KIWI logic for ya !.. Pics and story are great. Hope you post more. I like to see more of that deer also.

Awesome pics of a beautiful place!, That terrain at spot X looks pretty wild...nice rack too, fresh harvest or a picked up shed?
Thanx for sharing the beauty of your stomping grounds

Fantastic, Fes!! The shot of the wilderness is unbelievable and looks like an incredibly rugged area. I love the shot of your knife in the stream.

SHRAP....Thats a very good point and one of my biggest fears is my dog being shot accidentally due to his colouring (his son was shot last year due to this). If you cant find a deer to shoot in our bush, you havent left the carpark....... FES

Here in Finland, dogs on an Elk hunt (that's Moose to N.Americans, big whatever!) often wear fluorescent 'jackets' or 'saddles' to make them more visible in dangerous situations.

Are those Wildpigs good to eat though?.

Thanks, Will

fantastic pics mate.
