I made this rack out of oak to hang some of my swords on. The 5/8" dowels are spaced on 3" centers. It didn't work that well for swords. They don't feel secure to me. But it works great for Khukuris! Now I have room in my drawers. Now to figure out something for the swords. Maybe something like a shelf, with slots cut in it. That way the swords couldn't fall out, they would have to be pulled up and out of it.

E-mail sent on that bone handled thing in between the sickle and the khuks.

Do you accept shattered dreams as payment?

Jeb, that's a Afgan Choora. This particular one is kind of "touristy", but I like it anyway. Strickly a sticker, with a t-shaped spine.

Now to figure out something for the swords.
Build up the pegs that are in contact with the guards, to raise the blades to rack level.
Attach a rare-earth magnet in back of each sword, so that the blade makes contact with it.
Recycled disk drive magnets would work great. I'll send you a couple if you want. They are VERY strong.

Then you could use the same rack.

Like a pesh kabz? Do you put the curved part of the handle in your palm and use it like a push dagger? That might be a good way to get around the legal push dagger classification.

Perfect! I was thinking of something similar above the closet for some of mine. Last year I posted something similar with 1 1/4" dowels only 3/8" apart or so for multiple fixed blade knives hanging together in a row, but this is a great idea for the khuks.

Steve, what you are thinking of for the swords I was just dealing with in my garage. I had a dozen Tipton carbon fiber and Dewey coated rifle and shotgun cleaning rods, anywhere from 24" to 40" long, and was tired of taking them in and out of the cardboard tubes they were shipped in. I was going to make a rack that would have been perfect for swords as well, but went to Orchard Supply and looked around and found just the thing for around $20. It's a rack made from aluminium tubes, about 2' long X 1' deep. There are 4 or 5 tubes in the rack, each about an inch apart. There are 2 other tubes running crosswise for support. I just bolted this thing to the wall and dropped the rods down between the tubes; the handles prevent them from dropping through.

They made one that was rectangular and one that had a wave to it. A couple end to end would be perfect for swords. Luckily I have an old gun cabinet that holds all my long blades, but the khuks are getting to be a problem.

Thanks for the great idea!

Norm

W  W!!!! Like totally cool!!!! :D

Now you'll have to fill up your drawers again   :footinmou

The really big khuk is the 30" Sirupati with the tru-oil finish, isn't it?

Man, but the Rose is a chunk of steel. Other pics don't put in in scale like that...

How 'bout naming some of the others? Well, not all. You'd get carpal tunnel syndrome while typing!

Ad Astra

The local Wal-Mart used to sell a four-rifle rack for $20 a bit ago. The wood is reasonably attractive when finished properly, there's a lockable cabinet on the bottom, and it's one of the few things they have that's made in the USA. Bolting in a couple of hooks allows for more capacity. I currently have 2 Napoleon Swords, one Everest Katana, one tulwar, one Dukti Sword, one CS Grosse Messer, one Karka Special, the Tez Darr, a CS 'hawk, a 12" Siru, my lovely 25" Kobra, a Manjushree Sword, and a 30" Siru on mine. It's getting a bit crowded. I should've bought two.

Haven't seen them recently. As I said, I should've bought two. With all the khuks hanging on my workbench and swords propped up against the same, it's looking like I'll have to build something.

Still, if you can find an affordable rifle rack, they work very well for swords.

Jeb, the choora is a cousin to the pesh kabz. Here are some quick pics.

Mpisi, If you look closely, you can see your name tag on the tulwar. ;)

Norm, that sound neat!

Aardvark, I've got a whole storage room full of old computer stuff. Thanks for the idea!

Rule, you got me on that one.

Thanks Mamav.

Thanks Satori,
I thought about rifle racks, but wanted something a little different. So I built these two racks on the other wall. I'm starting to run out of room! It's starting to look like the King's Armory in here.

If you use the magnet idea, be aware that your blades could pick up some residual magnetism. Not a huge deal, unless you mind it.

Nice collection. Your Afghan piece has a very interesting butt on the handle.

Now that's what I'm talking about. Very nice, Steve.

Hah! You should have been wearing your Kevlar skivies if you've been hauling all those around in your drawers! :D

BTW, how do you like the Sundang from Kris Cutlery? I've thought of getting one, and maybe a Pinuti.
