Wallet: Front pocket or rear pocket carry?

Rear pocket normally; but, I don't wear jeans or pants with a "loose" rear pocket very often. When I do wear such, I carry a modified wallet in my front left pocket.

I've always carried mine in my front right pocket.

It's so uncomfortable to sit on, I can't understand how anyone does it.

Back right pocket. If I am going somewhere suspect, I have a chain that fits on the corner of my wallet and the other end is a belt loop clip. My wallet is the sort that folds in half and has quite a lot of junk in it. Although it is fat, because it is pigskin it has moulded to my bum and is comfortable. Having said that, the corners wear the outside of my pocket after about 12 months. It is sufficiently hard for me to get out, that it would be difficult for a pickpocket without 'feeling me up'.

I switched to a small front pocket wallet 1 1/2 years ago and never looked back. Mine has 3 card slots and a magnetic money clip.

I bought a Filson Security wallet last week as a backup/replacement and it seems extremely well made. It doesn't really have a bill pocket so I'll have to experiment a little when the time comes.

wallet in front left pocket - keys in front right
my wallet has recently moved from the leg pocket of my cargos up into the upper left front pocket - mostly due to the fact that i couldnt feel my new wallet in the lower pocket (gaffer tape wallet, room for 6 cards, notes and a fischer space pen)

Day in day out in my back pocket. If I'm in a city or something, I'll put it in my front pocket for security. (I'm just a hick from Vermont so I get scared on subways and airplanes!)

When I'm on vacation, I'll usually keep some cash and a credit card wrapped in a rubber band in one pocket and my wallet in another so if I lose the wallet I will not be SOL. If I'm wearing shorts without pockets (like at the beach) I have a nylon passport holder that goes around my neck.

When I first started to carry a wallet, I had a velcro billfold that I kept in the right back pocket. I managed to lose it twice, the second time for good. I then bought a leather tri-fold wallet which I have put in my front right pocket. I've found that besides comfort, my wallets last me a lot longer than the wallets of friends who use the back pocket. I've gotten so used to the feeling of my wallet in the front pocket that I feel "naked" without it.

I carry my wallets in my front pockets. That's right, I carry two wallets, one for ID and one for cash. Some have called me obsessive on this topic. I plead guilty.

One wallet goes in each of my front pockets. Since they're trifolds, I have enough room for my pocket tools, too. And I use my front pockets for security reasons.

When I was in college, my wallet (I carried just one then) slid out of my rear jeans pocket in a class. I could have lost everything, but that was back when most everyone was still decent and honest.

The person who found it very kindly ran after me and handed it back. Since then, my wallets have resided in my front pockets, no matter what the occassion or the pants, jeans, or trousers I'm wearing.

i keep mine if the front right. it is a fossil moneyclip/ card holder. i have had it for about 7 years, never lost it, misplaced it and will not replace it until it falls apart. i used to carry a wallet, but i find this MUCH more practical.

I've always carried my wallet in my back, right pocket. I do also carry a money clip for my front left pocket.

In over 25 years, I've never lost a wallet (I have run it through the wash once, though).

Well, to answer:

1. Front right pocket
2. Yes, one of the reasons is for security.

Another reason is for the fact that I don't want any trouble with my back. I'm a pack rat. When I get receipts and such it goes right into the wallet. I'm sorry, but its there and so I put stuff in there. If I had to sit on my wallet I'd be lopsided and that would eventually hurt my back.

money clip/card holder, front pocket. I developed a wicked case of Sciatica from sitting on a wallet. No more for me.

I use one of these Fossil Front Pocket Wallets in my left front pocket since I had problems a few years back with my hip.

I carry anything else in a Fossil Credit Card Wallet in my jacket.

I switched to front pocket a few years ago, and couldn't be happier. The key issue I found was that standard front pocket wallets tend to have very little cargo space since they need to be smaller and lighter. However, I refused to sacrifice my ability to carry all my cash in the wallet (no clip! Don't want to pull all my cash out in public), along with some minimum bunch of cards (driver's license, AAA card, credit card, ATM card, health insurance card, etc.).

Because of the dueling objectives of "small for front pocket" and "minimum amount of cargo carried is more like a standard wallet", I've kept upgrading wallets. Since I can't sacrifice the amount of cards or the money pocket, I've kept pushing the envelope on reducing the size and weight of the wallet itself. I've ended up with perhaps the ugliest wallet in the history of wallets, but it carries all my bills, and all my cards, and nevertheless remains so small and lightweight that I can barely feel it: http://www.backpackinglight.com/cgi-bin/backpackinglight/litefold_xp_ultralight_wallet.html

I've been switching back and forth between carrying it in bi-fold and tri-fold mode, both work great, but give me exterior pockets so I often don't even have to open the wallet up.

I carry THE wallet in my right back pocket. It is so big and will not come out of the pocket easily nor quickly. Safe but slightly inconvenient, but I think it's a good deal as I want to carry so many cards, bills, and a passport in my wallet.

Saw a couple of smaller wallets on the maxpedition site that could be used for front pocket carry

wow joe you are right.

That has to be the ooglies wallet in history.

BTW: I wear mostly cargo pants. and the wallet goes on the leg. Anybody here still use wallet chains or did those go out in the 90's?

I have a pretty huge wallet and it rides right side back pocket. Whenever I have to sit for extended periods, I just take it out and hold it or set it down. Most of my pants won't hold my wallet in the front pocket without a giant bugle forming. I'm not worried about pickpocketing because I'm at one with my wallet. If it were ever to leave my side against its will, I would know.

I consider myself a real wallet afficianado. With gifts, some I've bought, etc, I probably have around 30+. I tend to switch them up every month or so. Right now, I am carrying a Hartmann slim bifold in belting leather in my back pocket. Whenever I feel uncomfortable in an area, I will tuck it in my front pocket. For dress carry, I change to a Louis Vuitton or Gucci card case in my breast pocket.

I've been carrying my wallet in my left front pocket since I was a teenager. It's easier (and less obvious) for me to check that it's still there.
