Hello all,
This auction is for one Wally Hayes forged sanmai hawkbill, and one Reese Weiland prototype Recon. I apologize for the frankly horrendous pictures, particularly of the Weiland folder - all I had for that one was a scanner. Feel free to ask any questions you like. The picture quality does not do the knives any justice at all, unfortunately, anything better is outside my abilities at the moment.
The Hayes piece is an incredible piece of work - Wally's own Sanmai steel, a tool steel core (O1, perhaps) clad with his own raindrop pattern damascus. Either steel would be suitable for a non-laminated blade. The handle is wrapped in Japanese fashion, with silver dragon menuki on either side. The wrap is resin-impregnated, which gives it insane durability. The length is about 5 inches, disregarding the curve. The edge grind is actually convex, with what appears to be a microbevel at the very edge. The knife was designed by Jose Negron, and is one of two - this is the original. Comes with an Undercover clip sheath, and a wooden presentation box. Price: $450 or best offer
The Weiland Recon is a titanium framelock, much in the vein of the Sebenza and others. Originally designed as a recurve, this has a more standard drop point profile, satin finished, with a hollow grind terminating in a fine edge. The clip is set for tip down deep pocket carry. The backspacer is polished and carries Reese's "cracked ice" filework. Just as a note, it doesn't look at all like cracked ice. It is, however, a very... tactical... pattern, very aggressive to look at. This knife has the regular wear marks, a variety of light scratches all over the handles. In addition, their is an odd mark near the bottom of the handle - on the reverse side, there's a small L-shaped mark impressed into the titanium. A slip-up with the drill press? A small flaw in the titanium used? I have no clue. It's a purely cosmetic issue. The blade is sterile, and the only maker's mark on the knife is on the inside of the spacer - it reads, "REESE WEILAND PROTO." Lockup is perfect. An absolute tank of a knife. Price: GONE!
All prices include Priority shipping in the US. I take PayPal (we'll split the fees) and USPS money orders. Thanks for looking!
