Hi everyone,

I'm looking to sell my Hayes hawkbill. It's a spectacular little piece, made of Wally's own sanmai steel - an O1 core sandwiched between two layers of his own raindrop patterned Damascus. I believe the only other hawkbill Mr. Hayes made was the Ice series, and they don't even approach this piece. The blade is about 5 1/2 inches long, with a wicked curve to it. Because it's hand-wrought, the tool steel core is exposed along the edge in a spectacular hamon-like line. This line is only present on one side - the other side looks like straight damascus. This is a seriously rare piece - Mr. Hayes doesn't often do sanmai steel OR hawkbills. I'm looking for $750 US, shipped. I'm also willing to listen to serious offers.

There are better pictures further down in the thread!

If you buy this knife and find anything you don't like about it, please feel free to send it back for a refund (minus shipping). No trade offers, please, unless you have any Japanese-style short swords or longswords. My email is zephyris (at) gmail.com. Thanks for looking!

BTTT. For what it's worth, the pictures don't do justice to either knife. The Hayes piece in particular is horribly misrepresented. At least I'm not a photographer by trade...

Wally's small non-Damascus, non-folded tantos go for about $500-600. This hawkbill has had a lot of work put into it - grab it while it's still (relatively) cheap!

That said, I realize I'm quite new here, and therefore not beyond suspicion. This being the case, I'm willing to go to some lengths to put potential buyers at ease - if you have any suggestions for making a transaction more palatable for you (short of me shipping before you paying - I need the money too badly to risk that much on my end), please tell me. Thanks!
