Walmart and Grade 'B' Products?

Thanks for setting this one straight Mr. Hubbard. He'll come up with something else next week. DM

Since no one else said this I will. I am sure if emw479 wants to ask specific Buck questions here we will work hard as Buck forum members being truthful and decent in our reply. Also I invite him to check out the Buck Collectors Club Website. For a $10 yearly fee, he can become an electronic member and access the history of the club and the newsletters with Buck information. The BCCI website is on the verge of changing styles and improving. It will also have a easy to access collectors forum....

If you don't like the Fullers groove on your fixed blade this can be easily fixed with some fines sand paper. DM

The ONLY difference between a Walmart 110 and a 110 at any other retailer (some retailers do buy it with the Cordura sheath also) is the Walmart ones gets a cordura sheath instead of leather. Same production line, same process etc...

Exactly what I said but now you have it from the horse's mouth, so to speak.

Remember, some people still believe the Earth is flat they have societies all around the globe.

As the person who started the thread, I think it was a reasonable question to ask. From the knife buyer from Walmart, emphasis in bold....

I know that I'm resurrecting a relatively older thread, but I feel the need to share with you all. Believe me if you want, if you don't I understand, but as of September I buy the knives for all Walmart stores in the US. That being said, I have some insights into all of this. First of all, please do not take this as a sales pitch. Sure, I have some good knives and good prices, but most of you I'm sure have fantastic places to buy knives I hope you continue to patronize them. I have been lurking on the forums for quite a while to educate myself. I hope to contribute while also continuing to learn.

- Walmart does not buy graded products in knives. Holiday televisions? Yes. Produce? Sometimes. Knives? No. I expect the same products my competition would receive.
- I do not demand lower and lower pricing from my suppliers. These guys are all very intelligent and have done business with Walmart for years. They know what I'm willing to pay. I know that I'm paying less than everyone else anyway because I'm buying more. As long as I undercut Academy, Dick's, Cabela's, BPS, and Amazon (sometimes) I'm happy.
- In one instance, I have worked with a supplier to spec down a sheath from leather to nylon. The majority of my customers aren't concerned with sheaths. I'm not the one who did it to the 110, though.
-Please, please, save yourselves some money and buy online to pickup in store if you want to buy a knife from Walmart. Same knives online are usually at Amazon's prices.

In what I've seen briefly on this forum, I appreciate the support for Buck Knives and the understanding of quality at a price point. I sincerely appreciate enthusiasts like you all helping me learn the ropes. Plans this year are for the majority of Buck Knives to be made in the USA. Hopefully if we move enough back to Idaho, costs will go down allowing us to move the entire line back. I can dream!

Product grading for large manufacturers does happen, sometimes. Those of us with retail experience know this. It's not a flat earth concern.

Thankfully, we've gotten confirmation from both the buyer (Walmart) and from Buck (below) that this isn't happening with Buck and Walmart and that's really excellent news.

I'm assuming you're referring to me David, since I'm the OP. If you feel the issue wasn't a legitimate question to ask, perhaps you can work with 300Bucks to come up with a set of topics you feel are healthy for this sub-forum and a set that are more off-topic. Come to agreement and post it so people like me won't run afoul of your pleasure and expectations.

@300Bucks: please feel free to lock this thread. The question has been answered authoritatively by both parties and no need for the sputtering to continue.

I actually thought it was a very interesting read as I have sometimes wondered this.

Thanks for the invitation, 300Bucks. I had actually heard of BCCI from Buck's account manager so I'm interested in joining. I'm pretty sure he's a lurker here as well. I'll be sure to respect the forum rules, I'm not here to make a sale. Side note, your location mentions Pretty Boy Floyd. He lived in NW Arkansas for a time, and my sister once dated a guy who was supposedly descended from him. It's not very often that I hear PBF mentioned.

emw,
I live in his hometown and know some folks who met him alive, what's funny is I am distantly related to Machine Gun Kelly.....but venture to Cabelas and AG in Rodgers on occasion. I also have taken the time to meet and make known my interest in Buck knives and .22 bullets to Mart sporting goods associates.

Pinnah, I believe you can lock it yourself if you want to. Maybe not ? Let me know.

I'm about 6 feet away from the ammunition buyer. We're buying .22 as fast as they'll make it, supposed to get much better within the next 6-9 months. I met with AG and Goldie last week, absolutely fantastic people.

Welcome emw479! Glad to see a rep from a place where I spend alot of my money at! Keep buying Bucks to sell and good news about the 22 ammo!! I hope it does start showing up as the Walmarts by me have none and Dicks only lets you buy three small 40 round boxes when they do get it in....
