I guess Thomas will have the info, but I visit six Walmarts while I visit shopping malls my company runs, and a few months back they had great new displays that included several Kershaw knives ( I bought four Storm IIs from them) but the stock has not been replenished at all ?!?!?!?! I assume that Walmart is lacking in their re ordering but they have been out of Storms in all six NY-NJ stores for months......Any reason why ??? Thanks

I am not the right Thomas, and hope he will reply, but it does look as if Walmart is doing away with selling good knives in it's stores. At least in our area.
Much like they did with guns.
Those nice folks don't want us to hurt ourselves

I noticed the same thing - Walmart has reduced the number of guns it has carried. But that is not a bad thing. It may help out the other gun stores stay in business. We might pay a bit more but it is better than not having a gun store around.

Walmart is still selling ammo. I usually buy my ammo from an on line source.

Wal-marts all seem to be run a bit differently around here. The one closest to me is run terribly. They're still doing the store wide re-set that all the other stores in the area finished weeks ago. They also consistantly sell through product that isn't replaced on the shelves for weeks.

In addition to my Kershaw knife question, I have seen that in NY they are getting rid of rifle/shotgun sales ( pistols were not sold here). Are they getting rid of firearms everywhere? The knives were removed from the counter "paper display" and hung on locked peg board racks that a worker had to release for you to get the knife. There were about seven or eight Kershaw models with the Storm II at $29.99 being the top of the line for Kershaw being offered.

We all know how huge Wal-Mart is, and with that size comes issues. Replenishment is one of those issues. The "picture board" at Wal-Mart has been the same for some time now. There are both USA and China made Kershaw's on board. In store stock is on them, we are ready to ship when they are ready to order. It's all on them. Certainly they are not perfect, and this can be frustrating for both you and me.

Knife sales are solid though, continue to look for quality Kershaw offerings at Wal-Mart.

Hope this is not too confusing.

I haven't seen any Kershaws or Spydercos for a while in my local Walmarts.

Just Leatherman and Gerber. Multi-tools and smaller blades, definitely no AO on any of them.

Thomas thanks for the input.......I assumed it was on them, but it seems that with knives there is no consistant ordering system set up. I can only assume their sporting goods department is aware they are out of store stock as they computer inventory control system is top notch......be more agreesive selling them their "Never of out basics" knife line that is on display !!!!! We want our Kershaws....lol....I manage several retail malls in NY-NJ-PA and most stores do have a common thread in quickly restocking items that they deem are daily offerings. I would think Walmart would care a bit about having in stock items on a display board or labelled on a empty rack......should we start a customer complaint email storm to them on your ( and our) behalf???...lol

It does seem to vary from store to store, let alone area to area.

As an example, I needed a birthday gift for a customer, and passed a Wal Mart about 30 miles from home. Went to the sporting goods, and no Kershaws in stock. Drove on home and stopped in a Wal Mart on the other side of town with the same results, no Kershaws. Drove over to my favorite Wal Mart and Bingo! Bought another Scallion from there (this now makes 7 from this store alone), wrapped it up and delivered it to my customer.

As a side note, I've now given away 6 Scallions as presents, and I get the same response when they are opened: : "Wow! This is great. (now I show them the A/O feature) Wow! What kind of knife is this (even tho it has KERSHAW in big outlined letters across one entire side)? Where did you get it? Do they make other knives?" And on and on...Knife 101 at its best! One of my customers has called me about my Kershaws, and he is now the proud new owner of a Cyclone Ti/ZDP and loves it.

OK Thomas, since I'm literally giving these things away and have infected another with the Kershaw disease, where's my prize? I'd like one of those mis-labeled ENER-G's that left the factory by mistake! Just kidding! (No, really I'm not!)

But back to the Wal Mart thing: it does seem to be hit or miss.

My local Wal-Mart just got rid of their AO Kershaws and their Spyderco Natives

The Walmart closest to me did the same thing. They used to carry several Kershaws and the Natives....the store reconfigured and now the "picture board" under the counter is gone. No more display case...the knives are packaged and hanging on the wall. No Kershaws or Natives. The employee I asked about this said they are only carrying knives from the "big 4"......Buck...Gerber....CRKT and Leatherman. I almost threw up in my mouth and had to leave.

just curious, but why do you want so many storms?

storms are really good knives, i carry one for work, im a carpenter so you know it gets lots of use and its served me very well. it really is a bargain at $30.

Honestly, that really IS my addy, so if anyone has any Kershaw knives that you are thinking about tossing away, you CAN send them to me and I'll dispose of them properly.:D.:D.

Big box stores will have different levels of stores, some are super stores others are not. This is based usually on volume and location. There will be Wal-Mart's that have a board and others that do not. Most of them will.

It will always be the replenishment systems in place that will decide stock though, and that can be hit and miss with these huge retailers.

SPXTrader, we need to make sure the Wal-Mart in your area is constantly stocked.

I wish we had better prices and deals in canada, I wonder why?. I hate having to pay $80 for a tungsten coated leek.

But I will :D(I guess that anwsures my question.)

I've noticed a lack of Kershaws at our local walmarts as well. I went to there online site and these were there offerings....

Tanto Blur
1001 Two Can
Leek Rainbow 1660VIB
1098AK Alaskan Blade Trader
4351 Military 4.5 inch Fixed Blade

You would think they would offer the plain 1660 Leek, Chive and Scallion on there online site as well.:confused:

Since I do Technical Portfolio Investment Management, as soon as you open your account with me, a brand new Scallion will be on it's way!

I'm not kidding, either :)

No, they don't want us to hurt ourselves, but apparently it's ok for the staff. Last year I asked a clerk to dig out a Storm2 for me (at Walmart), (I bought two of them). The clerk said that he had to open the knife for me to avoid hurting myself. I found this amusing as I was shown how to handle a knife by my father at around age 10, while he butchered one of many moose. Anyway, the guy opens the folder, then.....BANG! the knife hits the glass display and I start to see the blood. He opened his thumb right up. I have first responder training etc. and I follow him and the blood trail as he shoots down an aisle. I get him to sit down and ask him how to use the store intercom. I hit a button, tell them it's a code..whatever, in sporting goods. A bunch of managers whistle in and deal with it. The guy wasn't spurting arterial blood or anything really serious, just sliced his thumb pretty good so I wasn't overly concerned for him. It might be good store policy however to give some basic knife handling training to some of their inexperienced staff. I shook my head with the irony of the situation, at home, with the retelling of the experience.
