Well, we recently located about 700 miles north. Since we are finally settled in, for the most part, I went for a wander in new woods.

Ha, a sign containing the word snowmobiles, that's definitely a new one for me

Hmmm, if they actually enforce the lower part of this sign I am going to like this place a lot!

Straight roads up here

\I'm older than most of the trees in this section...

My companion for the adventure, the MK-22 by Ed Martin

I loaned it to Gutsy for a while, and it not only came back in one piece, it came back sharper than it was when I left it with him after both of us had used it quite a bit.

Deer season just started...

Walked through the woods into an open field

And then found a stream beyond it.

As expected, I found some plants I immediately recognize..

Sassafras

Plantain and Dandelion

Mullein and more plantain

thistle

cattails

Then some I don't recognize

Of course there are spiders

Looks like the work of a Pileated woodpecker, fairly large beak at work it looks like.

And autumn is getting closer

Great pics- haven't kept track of you in while. This move permanent or temporary?

Great pics, Mist.
I really like the blade profile on the Martin too.

Nice pics. You are in Morel country now. I used to pic up giant edible puff ball mushrooms in southern Ontario apple orchards as a kid. I'm sure that you could find those also. I tapped trees for sap to boil and made cider in a press. Many interesting things to do in that region.

Beautiful! I have always liked those knives, just never gotten around to getting one. Thanks for the woodsy pics too...looks wonderful. Why did you move?

Lovely pics again :)

Thanks man, glad you liked them

nice pics as usual. thanks for sharing

Thanks tman, glad you liked the post

Thank you. Well...from my experiences, no move is permanent :) but this one is hopefully not too temporary, and though I'll know more about how the family feels about it after this coming winter, so far I won't mind if it is permanent.

Awesome pictures and an awesome walk!! Thanks for sharing.....

Thank you! Glad you liked it.

Thanks Daizee, being in new woods and unfamiliar with the environment I wanted something along that would fill a dual role well ;)

Thanks, I definitely have much to learn about the available resources here in this area.

Why no horses? a lot less harmful then a dually

I was wondering the same thing. Where I lived before horses were allowed on any of the trails in the WMAs in my area. I'll just be glad if they enforce the ORV part and I will have that one area to avoid the noise and idiocy that always seems to come with them.

Brian, Love the pics you showed. It looks like a great place to wonder around in.

Bryan

Thanks Bryan, I am really liking the area a lot so far.

Ed makes some fantastic knives. I have two by him and love both. His son Newton also makes some great knives. This one has become a favorite of mine. I love the balance of the mortised tang, and the soldered guard. The grinds are fantastic, and his heat treat is excellent. One of the better over-all packages I have ever bought especially considering the price for what is gotten.

That is a bit of a story. My brother bought the land up here, and wants me to oversee the building of his retirement home here beside the stream (I built the house he lives in now). He asked if I wanted to move here and I at first said no. Then he asked if I would come oversee the work that needed doing since he was going to rent the place out. I said sure and came up and fell in love with the place. His renter backed out at the last minute, and I couldn't resist it. In the end I'll have the two acres where the house I live in now is and the orchard, and he'll have the three acres on the other end with the stream.

Glad to hear that you are settled in at your new place. Love the fuse sticks. Thanks for posting.

So you have actually moved from TN up to Michigan? Hope you enjoy it and there will be so much new stuff to explore. The UP is a very interesting area.

Enjoyed your pictures. Yes, fall is approaching rapidly. Even down here, the early signs are apparent.

Yep, mostly settled in, still a few things to do here and there but mostly lol.

Yep, central LP in rural farm country. I am enjoying exploring new woods, lots to see and learn. Really looking forward to making a trip to the UP next year. Yes, lots of colors already starting to change here, and really cool some mornings. I am liking that a lot more than the wife :D

I'd love to visit Michigan this time of year, the short window between bugs and snow. :D

I have a very specific reason for wanting to visit, my ancestors settled in the Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes area, now a National Park. Haven't been there since I was a kid, over 30 years ago.

Another Great post my Brother
:)

Thanks bro, lots of exploring and experimenting to be done here :)

looking like alot of material to play with IE cattails

Yep, seems to be lots to work with here in the warmer months, looking forward to getting to see more of it next year. Right now wondering what the winter will bring, and glad the LP tank is full :)

Probably because horses piss and crap everywhere, and their owners think it's okay to leave that on the trail. They also break up trails like crazy, causing massive issues with errosion as soon as it starts to rain a bit. I have some trails frequently used by riders around my home area, there's horse crap everywhere and the smell from their urine makes the place unbearable unless you're zipping by on a bike, not to mention it becomes a mudpit once any rain hits.

This is why.

Stopped at a local wildlife area yesterday. The crap on the trails doesn't bother me, but the parking lot was covered in bushels and bushels of horse turds and piss. Seems the 'outdoorsmen' who use the area are mostly horseback hunters who 'camp' in the parking lot. Filthy slobs. :thumbdn:
