I been fighting with this knife for the last 4 days and finally got it together. It wasn't made as a fighter but I guess it thinks it is. The blade was made from shear steel from the old saw blade I've been working from. Its also got a blackwood handle and wrought iron fittings.

I like it a lot. The blade looks stunning, can you give us some detail on how you made those patterns?

The pattern is in the steel itself, I just did a long etch to bring it out. I'm guessing the steel that was used in the old saw blade is at least 100 years old. The patter comes from the way the made the steel long ago. I think I can pull up something on the steel but it will have to be awhile. Its to bad they don't make steel that way anymore..... Maybe if you do a search for SHEAR STEEL you can come up with something. Got something in the oven.....

I remember seing another knife made from a saw blade that showed the same wootz-like pattern. It looks cool.

The pattern on that shear steel is awesome. The knife has a beatifully sleek look. Wonderful.

You wouldn't consider selling me a piece of that saw blade would you? If not, do you have any idea where saw blades like that can be found.

Keith, here's a picture of what I have left. This was a real find, its something I've had for years and just felt like giving it a try. Wasn't sure with the bad outward appearence of this blade that it would be even worth trying to forge a blade out of. I really need to hold on to what I have, sorry.

No problem, I didn't really expect you to say you would sell me some, but it was worth asking.

What does this stuff cut like? Have you tested it for edge holding and how is it to sharpen?
