I have a GB folder and a 940-1. Also a delica and a mini grip. I carry the smaller blades more often than the bigger ones.....but that is partly b/c i hate the idea of dinging the nice knives up and the smaller ones fit in my pocket a bit easier...but not a deal breaker at all. Im torn between getting a dressier pair of smaller 3" knives (484-1 and a native 5 carbon), or a perhaps a more utilitarian version of the bigger knives...like a 940-2 and a para 2. What would you all do?

Given that list of wants, I'd get a BM 586 and a Chaparral.

The 586 is a fantastic knife and can easily be dressed up with some custom scales. The Chaparral is a great small, CF folder and an amazing value.

I bet with a little encouragement we can get my buddy Joe toss in a photo of his 586 for an example of some custom scales.

Im thinking this too. A bigger working knife and a smaller gents blade. 484-1 and a para2

Thx

I recommend a Native 5 (LW is my preference) and a 707 Sequel before they go extinct (just got discoutinued) They're both small and nice but not too nice to preclude you from carrying and using them. Let us know what you decide!

The full size grip is a fat knife....does anybody have one and also a GB folder? Do they feel similar in size in the pocket?

I had both at the same time. The GB1 is a bigger and bulkier knife in the pocket. Maybe a little slimmer but just bigger and bulkier overall. Not sure about the GB2.

484-1 for sure, I carry it over my 940-1 every time. Its a ton of blade for the size of the knife, but feels appropriate in the office. I've been carrying it clipless. It's far and away my favorite Benchmade of all time. It's everything I wished the mini-grip was.

The PM2 is a great recommendation. Also check out the Sage series (Sage2 in pocket today). They walk the line between large and small knives very well IMO.

I would (and did) do this pair:

The fit and finish is as good as anything I've had from Benchmade (actually better than my 940-1501). The blades open Sebenza smooth, and they're super fast if you flick them. And I these two together cost me $71 at Knifeworks. That's D2 on the Rat 1.

I love the BM 484 series. Beautiful knife, well thought out, too.

I passed on getting one because of the 531. Lighter and thinner than the 484, it makes a decent dress knife without breaking the bank. Look around, I have seen G10, CF and Titanium scales. IIRC, three or four blade steels, too. Maybe consider the 531?

Search here on BF.com. There is a very good thread dedicated to the 531.

Do what I do; carry the GB everyday (and if you want to carry some other knife carry it in addition to the GB). Only problem I have found with this is people keep asking my why I always have that stupid smile on my face.

I would try to find a way to handle each of my choices and see which ones I like best. For example, the BM 707 is one of their best knives, but it is a little small for my large hands, so I do not carry it much. If I had handled it before I bought it online I would not have done so. I have a lot of knives that sit around collecting dust. The knives I actually carry and use are simple, non-glamorous, users. I tend to carry the Delica instead of the Mini Grip or 707 as it cuts better and fits my hand. I carry a Dragonfly at times when a Delica is not convenient. I carry an Endura for a larger knife as it is light, strong, and rides well in my pocket. If I do not have one of these, then I will pocket carry an Izula. I have a Candiru on the way. Sometimes a small fixed blade is better. Additionally, I always have a small SAK with me as a secondary, whether a Classic SD or a Cadet. But, as I said, I actually use the knives I carry so I want something practical.
