Want a small, fixed blade for possible EDC...

I used to be a big folder collector and still am. But I'm beginning to see the advantages of a fixed blade, perhaps for daily carry. I want something small and light. I did have a Busse (3.5 inch "Mean Streets" at .25 inches thick) and a Bud Nealy short, slim knife with a great kydex sheath (maybe better than the knife!). I sometimes wore the Bud Nealy in an inside suit pocket upside down. Being left handed this suited me well (pun not intended).

Not sure of the blade shape but want medium quality to start. Not junk but not expensive. Being left handed is hard knife-wise, but easier than when buying a folder (I just got a ZT350TS that is great but slightly heavy). Where I live having it stick out can scare undercover cops and civilians --- so this way I can avoid a pocket clip (or get a SOG folder or something).

The right carry would be key which probably points to a good sheath --- in the left pocket of jeans, under a shirt, neck knife or whatever. I'm learning at this point. :-) I'd rather it not be too scary for the times I carry and pull it out for small, urban tasks. I realize getting a good ambi or lefty sheath might be hard. Indeed, I might need a custom sheath (hopefully not too much money for a lefty sheath).

If this could be a sometimes daily carry, I might buy a nicer small fixed blade and presumably sheath for pride of ownership and so as not to scare anyone.

Thanks for any ideas (or setting me straight or questions)!

Best

Look at some neckers, the Izula, Becker and Bark River. All come with ambi sheaths, all are awesome in their own way. I've got all 3, and I really want a Bark River in 3v, I just don't have spare cash in the budget right now, mine is in 12c27.

BK14 BK14 BK14!!!!!

Awesome blade, super affordable, and if you desire you can buy awesome aftermarket zytel scales for it for like 14 bucks. The ergos are great and the steel is awesome (1095 Cro-Van). I can't recommend one enough.

I only have a BK14, so I can't compare small fixed blades as many others may. Only thing I can say is that I'm very happy with the Eskabar:-)

Thanks. The BK14 seems like a good starting point --- and price point. Especially with those handles!

We'll see.

The handles do look good, but do not come with the package. They're aftermarket handles. The knife only comes with paracord and a sheath (next to the obligatory paperwork).

I have an Esee Candiru which is nice, but for a little more you can get something from Alan Davis, Eliot, etc. in the custom makers forum. My Peewee by Eliot is my favorite edc fixed blade at the moment. Stylish, high quality and would fit in very well in a suit-wearing environment.

Don't overlook some of Blind Horse Knives (BHK) offerings. I own a lg Tiger Knaap and love it. Their O1 tool steel is IMO very good stuff aside from resistance to corrosion.

My favorite production one is the BRKT Bravo Necker 2. I mean, I love my Beckers, but the BRKT is just a better knife, IMO. That being said, I carry one of my own make and design in damascus these days.

Blind Horse knives Frontier Patch is my EDC.

http://www.blindhorseknives.com/frontiervalley.htm I didn't buy from the manufacturer, I got it from a knife shop with a better price. Send me an email if you want the link. Can't post it on here ;)

+1 on the brkt necker. I had a different BRKT and it was smashing (but some arse-nubbin stole it)

I don't know why but I've also been interested in a small EDC fixed blade.

Besides the BK11/14, I've read about the Blind Horse, the BRKT, the Blackjack Necker, and the Boker Krein pocket bowie.
I've also been searching online auctions for "neck knife" and after wading through hundreds of them I've found a few that were interesting.

For my pocket carry I've decided that it needs to be about 6.5" overall length which is in "neck knife" territory. With my hand size I need a handle of about 3.25-3.50" which still leaves plenty of room for a good blade. Some neck knives are skeletonized without scales- I can make my own scales or cord-wrap the knife.

You should pick up a Spyderco Bill Moran Drop Point. Great little fixed blade, and the price isn't half bad.
