Well guys I've taken an interest in knife making and have been reading all kinds of information on here for the last month. Went to an auction today and bought some " knife blade steel" as the auctioneer descibed it. Both sheets are 6 AL 4V titanium, one .100 thick with a $42 price tag on it and the other .063 thick with a $18 price tag on it. Looked up 6AL 4V titanium on here and found out it's not blade steel at all but is used for liners. Anyone want to trade for something I can use?

Thank you fitzo. The .100 thick piece is 9"x10" and the .063 piece is 6 1/2" x 8 1/2". Hopeing someone will put it to use and be willing to trade for blade steel suitable for a beginer using stock removal.

YW, Martin. Now that people know the dimensions, I'll ask one more question. What type of steel are you looking for? Do you have a preference for size steel you desire or whether it's regular high carbon or high carbon stainless? If you plan on making the knives without a lot of power tools I'd suggest you consider thinner stock @ 1/8" or 5/32.

Since you have an email addy listed, people can then contact you with offers.

Good luck on your knifemaking journey. :)

BTW, this place is full of good people who are more than willing to help a newbie move along on that journey. Just be wary of the fellow named Indian George as he is an unsavory influence. :D

What kind of steel? HMMM that's a tough one. Plan on making some skinners so edge holding is a must when we have a pile of beaver to do. Toughness isn't a factor since they'll never see any chopping. Also wanted to HT the blades myself so 1084,1095 or O1 seem like good choices. Of course I wouldn't turn down a twist damascus either:D
