Want to buy a gentleman's folder with X-Mas money

The scales on that Spyderco Air do look awesome, though the blade shape doesn't do it for me.

I like the Sage line, the carbon fiber one is probably most sheeple friendly and very cool.

Don't overlook the Chaparral line, significantly smaller than the Sage, I have the CF and just got the Titanium for Christmas, OMG the scales are cool!

Enzo makes a couple of really nice looking edc's. Looking at one myself. keepem sharp

I currently have the emissary wich is absolutely amazing!
also, i saw that now it is available in a matte black finish wich looks sick!
eitherway, I vote for the emissary since the blade just flies out and takes a wicked edge. Not to mention it looks incredibly fancy. One thing you have to consider tough, is that you will have to add some grease to the axis lock frequently, otherwise the closing action wont be smooth. Tis takes only 30 seconds tough. You have to add grease to the area that the blade bottom contacts the axis lock so it can slide smoothly.

That being said, i really do like the looks of the shoki and megumi and have been tempted to buy them for a while. For what it's worth, i have hear rumors of the lock being unreliable, but I cant give you my experience on that, because as I said, I dont own any of those.

ps, the black emissary is called the 470-1

Shoki or emissary. Or the BM 755 MPR if you are a gentleman of some girth. It is chunky, but man o man what a blade! M390 steel to boot. But the clip may fray your dress pants.

I actually like the blade shape of the Air because it makes the small slicing jobs really simple with not having to change the position of your hand to accommodate the belly of the knife. You get nice even simple cuts with a Wharncliffe and that's my favorite thing about them. Plus, to some they look less scary, not sure why, but it's how it is.

On top of everything the knife is just beautiful and built amazingly. The fit and finish of it is better than a lot of $200+ knives I've owned and better materials on top of that. The knife is wonderful and it would definitely be my choice of a dressy knife. Even if I had to choose between it and a Chaparral(another favorite of mine) I would choose the Air.

It's just as close to flawless as you can get, especially in the price range mentioned with the super awesome materials. It's gorgeous, feels great in the hand, has an awesome texture on the scales, and is just purely functional. It's an awesome worker and looks great while doing it.

I got the Chaparral for my one sil who's an office guy/suit guy. He should love it. I don't like the Air; no belly.
Alias II would be a good one, or an Acies, or Lum Chinese C.F. Also, Russell has out a new Gentleman's frame-lock, 3oz, 3" VG-10 for $165. Maybe perfect.

Already have the Dragonfly, I also have it in the G10 which makes it a nice looking folder for sure. I am getting close to a decision, I will make sure to let everyone know what I decide. First I have to check out Enzo, I am not familiar with that brand. Need to also check out the Russel that was recommended by Sonnydaze. You guys have given me some good ideas for the future as well, not that my wishlist needs to be any longer.

Well I decided, I went with:

Benchmade Shoki 480-1 and Case Mini-Copperlock in Jigged White Delrin. Got both for under $200. :D

I really like the carbon fiber scales, blued titanium liners, cool MIM back spacer, and the M390 steel on the Shoki. The "Air" was a close second, but I have been buying a lot of Spyderco's lately so wanted to switch it up. The Mcusta Tsuchi was third... But I picked up a lot of good ideas! Thanks guys!

someone ready mentioned Mcusta, and I agree, they've got quite a few models that would fill the light-use office role. There are also Fallknivens that fit right in there too, and they've got the amazing laminate steel to boot.

I carry my GB Air when I'm dressed up, it's so light and the profile is just right without being too thin, which is why I haven't carried my Leek nor my Shallot. They were too thin.

Update: Got the Shoki and the Case in the mail today. The Case is a keeper, however I have to return the Shoki. It ended up having a chip in the liner and the blade was horribly off centered (which I could have fixed) but with both issues I returned it. I really liked the knife but BHQ didn't have anymore in stock so I exchanged it for the Gayle Bradley Air. :) I'll have to try the Shoki again at a later date.

Case mini-copper lock has my vote, I prefer the worn Bermuda green bone. Traditional knives seem to just jive with business attire.

I always think it looks strange to have a modern belt clip or whip out a spyderco in that sort of setting. Good knives as the BM and spydies may be, I don't think they come across very "gentleman-ly"

Good choice--you'll love being forced into the Air. It's a superbly made knife and wicked slicer.

Well, I really enjoy all of these posters above, but I have just gone through picking a bunch of folders and fixed blades for gifting purposes, and when I'm working with folders and business attire, I generally go with Spyderco carbon-fiber, and perhaps even FRN if it's grippy enough. I've tried enough titanium folders, in Sage 2, Bradley Alias I and II, Titanium Lum Chinese, etc., that I'm am shying away from titanium. Now, I have tons of titanium. I love my CRK's and Striders, and have carried a 690 BenchMade also for years. But, titanium is lighter and stronger than steel, but it's heavier than carbon-fiber. Strong and light usually means carbon-fiber, whether it's fishing poles or golf clubs, and I think it's relevant for knives also.
I carried a Caly3 carbon-fiber in VG-10 also for yrs, and that's a great knife. Already gave that one away, though...so darned many grandkids. :)
You are so lucky; you have so many great choices, as have already been posted. have fun.

I'm sure you'll probably love the Gayle Bradley, it's a very nice knife (although one that I didn't click with). I have to say, I've been carrying this off and on since Christmas and it's growing on me:
