Is it just me or is this showing as PRIVATE for others as well?

Edited to add that there are apparently some new rules, I can see that there is such a post if I totally log out, but when I log in to actually try to read the post, I cannot access it.

It would seem that someone has decided that registered users can no longer view the want to buy posts.

Why do you have to be like that? That forum just went up a few hours ago. Don't assume that it is private due to not wanting you in there. It may simply be a glitch. Geez.

Sorry Ken, I don't mean to be as bitchy as it sounds, although I was a bit taken back. I know full well that there can be glitches and apologize for causing crap if thats how its perceived. I do want to know though.

Huh? The Want to Buy (Want to Trade For) forum is not new, I guess I don't know what you mean to say.

Its interesting, I can actually see more of it before I log in than after.

Here is what it tells me:

jhillas, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:
  1. Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
  2. If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.

MORE updating, I can get it to show me posts that I have made in that forum, but thats all.

It was just recently that the wanted to buy forums were split into two sub forums. Maybe that has caused a glitch.

Ok, I need to update the wanted to buy areas.

Yes, there is now a Gear section for Wanted to Buy. Anyone may post a thread in the Wanted to Buy area. Non paying members are not allowed to view other's threads, since they aren't allowed to sell on this site.

Thats what I figured - I will note that the wanted forum also often results in trades. Not being able to see that username X is looking for a BM750P would prevent me offering one in trade.

You are a paying member, so you'd have access to that section regardless. Non-paying members, however, were using the forum to sell their knives, thereby skirting the Gold or higher requirement.

I can see that as being a way for people to do an end run around the forum rules. It makes sense to me that a way to stop that would have to be implimented.

But then again are you gonna discount the gold membership because one of the features is restricted? I mean if I was a Gold member and I wanted somethin- you have now cut one of the benefits of the site way below half.... That is not exactly fair to the gold members either. You have reduced the ability of the need to be met... by a significant amout. I can not believe the volume or types of needs being filled in that manner were a significant number.

Nothing has been restricted for gold members. . . the original poster upgraded to gold after this thread was posted. ;)

Ok- follow along closely...

Gold members have lost service....

Gold member wants a knife

ONLY GOLD members can see he wants it...
That SEVERELY LIMITS those who may provide for his/her need- I would venture by more than 3/4 . Its not only a profiteer thing for those that would be able to get them the needed item. Most who ask are lookin for hard to find or discounted used items. The resource that was available to the person who paid for the gold membership of which posting for a wanted an item is now being provided LESS exposure... this was done after most paid the membership fee. Is a rebate now due for all who paid before the new rule went into effect? There is less value provided now.

I would think that if there is a problem with individuals consistanly selling then those few should be excluded. A blanket cut back in a serious resource for the paying members is not really right and I doubt legal.

Does that make sense now?

Only gold members are allowed to sell on this site to begin with. You aren't a gold member, so you don't get to sell your stuff on the site I pay for. This isn't a blanket cut, this is a loophole in the rules being shut.

If you don't like not being able to sell, pony up. Otherwise, you aren't convincing me that you aren't anything but trying to get over. The exchange forums are there for Paying Members. The TRADE areas are still free to everyone. SELLING is restricted to PEOPLE who CONTRIBUTE to the UPKEEP of THIS SITE.

If anyone is selling even once without a paid membership, they should be (and will be) banned.

If I want to buy a knife, I will post there and buy from whatever gold member might offer it to me.

If I wanted to trade for a knife, there is a trade forum for that. The only people inconvenienced by this change are non-paying members who otherwise were able to sell knives behind the scenes in violation of the rules.

As I said the folks that PAID for the wanted section now have less exposure than what they paid for... if someone sells them a knife that was not advertised on your site it is not selling here. Non gold members could never post to the want ad to begin with nor PM the person.

All I hear is "I am pissed that I can't sell knives to people behind the scenes anymore". . .

If you sell a knife to another member here on the sly, that is still selling here. Not posting in the wanted thread (because you know you would be banned if you did), and offering it in email is still selling. Dodging the rules and being too cheap to pony up a few bucks is a total douchebag maneuver.

I receive complaints on a regular basis by paid members who are being solicited via email by non paid members offering items for sale.

This is a circumvention of the rules, and if I continue to get complaints, I'll stop warning the offenders and ban them.

As Spark has said; he provides a trade area for ALL members, and a SELLING area for paid Gold and above members. This includes the WTB areas as well. Since responding to a post in the WTB area by a non paid member is a solicitation to sell, it is against the rules for said non paid member, and said non paid member is subject to banishment.

Is this clear?

Gold and higher members aren't losing anything they were supposed to have when they paid for their membership. It has always been against the rules for a non-paying member to sell to someone advertising on the want to by forum/s. Why should Gold and above members get a credit for losing something they were never supposed to have?

Gold and higher members haven't lost anything because NON PAYING MEMBERS SHOULDN'T HAVE BEEN SELLING TO THEM IN THE FIRST PLACE.

BUYING is FREE to EVERYONE.

SELLING COSTS.

This is pretty simple. The more whining I hear, the more I think someone was getting over and is sad their loophole got shut

It's funny how the only person complaining about how we're cheating the paying members out of what they paid for ... isn't a paying member. Where are all the outraged paying members?
