Want to Buy in Exchange now "Private"?

I"M OUTRAGED! Well, no I'm not. I like this, as I've had solicitations in the past from people who claimed they wern't even members! This should get rid of that:thumbup:

It's funny how the only person complaining about how we're cheating the paying members out of what they paid for ... isn't a paying member. Where are all the outraged paying members?

LMAO!!

Close the loopholes!! :D

I see both sides, actually.

tallpaul is saying that closing off the WTB board limits opportunities for exposure because a "registered member" might have a knife that meets the needs of a Gold Member. Rat, you made a similar kind of statement a while back when you said you'd rather not see a separate Busse For Sale forum because it would limit exposure of the For Sale threads. Not an exact analogy (I'm getting to that), but a similar desire for getting the message out there to the most folks. It doesn't help tallpaul's case, however, that he is not a paying member.

Spark wants to close off avenues for sale by anyone who is not a paying member. That I get as well, and it supercedes tallpaul's point. Why? Well, it's Spark's board, and it has long been stated that you shouldn't sell here without a Gold membership (though I took that to mean... no advertisements outside the For Sale forums. I never gave the WTB forum a thought.) In retrospect, I imagine that a lot of folks, even dealers who don't pay dealer fees, have contacted people behind the scenes and made sales.

First, I paid for Gold to support the site. Second, because I want to sell knives from time to time. WTB wasn't really a factor. But if I had my druthers, I'd rather everyone be able to see my Wanted to Buy posts because you never know where you might find that knife you've been seeking. I have bought knives from registered users because of threads I'd posted in WTB. I've been happy with all such deals, and since the WTB threads were open to everyone, I simply assumed these transactions were okay.

However, I get Spark's point, and I'm not getting ruffled over the loophole closing. Just stay away from the gunshow loophole!!!!! :D

Yeah, and some swindlers who've been banned from posting lurk around the Exchange and email you trying to make a sale ... and they'll continue to do it in the other Exchange forums. When you're too late to buy a knife and somebody you've never heard of emails to tell you he has the very same knife for sale, be suspicious.

I have question, would it be OK to post a want ad in the trade forums as long as you are offering to trade for the knife you are looking for instead of bying it?

It's hard to see how the Trade forum could work without that. Just beware of strangers who email you to offer to sell you the knife you want to trade for....

I wouldn't deal with a total stranger. At the very least, they'd need to have some history on the boards, and I usually only deal with folks who have some decent feedback in GB&U.

Right here. :hand up:
I'm outraged that there aren't more GOLD level (and up) members in general!!! I just held a contest in the hopes of (among other random acts of kindness) causing a small surge in membership upgrades here... I don't think that happened at all... :( Oh, well. I'll just restrict the next to GOLD members and up.

$25 is pretty darn reasonable (actually more like seriously f*****' reasonable) for a yearly subscription, that, among other great reasons, allows you to sell some of your collected knives in a marketplace suited just for us knife 'guys'... ESPECIALLY the way that the site MODERATORS speedily keelhaul any spammer within their reach. I might even qualify for an assist for Progunner's super fast execution of the Nigerian herbal scammer just yesterday on his FIRST post yesterday, in fact. C'mon... when you THINK about the $$$$ in knives moved on this site yearly, I can see why Spark & his motley crew stick to their gunz on this issue. Isn't it about freakin' time to help them run this site at least without having to paypaypaypay&pay some more, the difference out of their pocket(s) to keep this FINE site operating PROPERLY instead of MOANING about the loss of a loophole that was obviously profitable for YOU (and many others) ???????????????????????? JMHO YMMV

BTW: I want to upgrade to Platinum from Gold in the middle of my yearly cycle... is there any way to apply the rest of my gold membership towards another upgrade??? Lemme put my money where my mouth is. :D

Thanks for the chance to weigh in & as always, Thx for readin' !!! :)
Jaxx:cool:

Sure.

All you have to do is word your offer to trade similar to this:

WTT: xxxx knife for xxx knife.

Look throught he trade forums and see how the regulars word their offerings, and as long as you are offering a trade, and not a possible sale, you are ok.
