1840 US Calvary Heavy Saber
This sword is referred to historically as "The ol' wrist breaker." Easily capable of taking off an arm, head, leg. Have a look at the demo on ColdSteel.com for the 1860 Heavy Calvary Saber. It's essentially the same sword as the 1840 model.
These are mfg'd in India by Windlass Steelcraft. About $150.00 USD. Therionarms.com is where I purchased mine. This dealer is conscientious, packs the item securely for shipping. I bought a similar sword by Cold Steel (mfg'd by Windlass) for twice the $$$. Shipped from Cabela's, it arrived freight damaged. ALSO, the Windlass from Therion has the blade riccosa markings accurate to the original mfg. "AMESMFGCO 1849" with the proof mark "DW" on the reverse. The Cold Steel item had no markings whatever.
The Windlass DOES NOT bear any import marks, "Made In India" etc. I've seen the antique item, and the Windlass is accurate in every manner, finely finished. My blade will not stay retained in the scabbard if inverted, an annoying shortcoming I can live with. Blade arrives unsharpened, w/ approx. 1/16" edge. Blade is slightly lighter than the original, but easily passes the British Proof Test (You can see this test on ColdSteel.com)
Double fuller in the Windlass is accurate to the original. Grip is leather bound and wire wrapped, Finely finished in all respects.
My uncle owned the original. Somewhere in the estate it was lost. This is my condolence copy, and I'm entirely pleased with it. If you want "beast" get "The ol' wrist breaker."

Another nice "beast" is the military M-9 Bayonet. Ontario makes one. I found a Buck in a pawn shop for $150.
There are imported imitations from Crapistan. Hold out for US steel.
