Want to buy wide blade flat ground folder, but can't find. Any suggestions?

Matthew,

The initial production Chinese Folder is the middle of the three sizes of Bob Lum's custom designs. The custom knife has a 3 1/8" blade and is 4 3/8" closed, so I would expect the Spyderco to be a similar size. It could be somewhat more than $100, Almite scales and nested liners don't come cheap

How about this little EKA slipjoint?
3" blade of Sandvik steel, african Bubinga oak handle. Less than 1/16" thin blade, saber ground, but very thin and sharp.

There are still Benchmade Leopards and Calypso C54s to be had.

I suppose that if there are still some in stock here and there, after they've been out of production for a while, is a sign that those of us who think they are really nice knives are in a minority.

The Edge Design Genesis is another high flat grind worth looking at.

Yes indeed funny thing about the Leopard. I find the handle design on the larger model to be just about the most comfortable I've ever used on a folder. I wonder what it was about them that made them less than a stellar performer for BM. I've had mine for 3 years now and never had a problem with it, easy to sharpen, cuts great, holds an edge, etc...

Now on to the Henry... I take it we're talking about the T12-CF. I visited both your site (James) and the Henry page. That's a beauty all right! I think your price was $220. I'll email your info@chaicutlery.com address and we can talk.

That JK26 folder also looked nice. I appreciate that you folks here can point me to true flat-from-the-spine grinds, thanks! Haven's see the genesis yet, but I'm looking...

Forgot to ask you Recluse about the Jones knife. I left a message on the guest book for him, but don't know if that will ever be answered. I'd like to get more information about that JK-26. For example, how thick is the blade, and how much does it cost? The Henry is a beautiful knife, but the price, even in the carbon fiber version is a little high. I would favor the jones if it is substantially less expensive and it looks like it might be...

Let me know if there is a better way to get in touch with Jones knife directly...

Thanks

Matthew-

I have e-mailed with Barry Jones of Jones Knives and he is a really nice guy. His e-mail is jknives@gamewood.net. I don't remember the price or specs on that particular knife, but I have only heard good things about the Jones brothers products.

Thank you for that pointer. I've noticed that the WH is not flat ground all the way to the spine, but to a point even with the base of the false edge, not really what I was after. The Jones knife turns out to be more expensive than the WH, and besides its 1/8 thick.

I'm still looking for a thinner blade (1/16), though I would give 3/32 a try if the price was under $200 the blade was wide (1" or a little more), and about 3" in length with a flat grind all the way to the spine.

But thanks for all the pointers. You guys have shown me some beautiful knives!

Browning makes a couple lockback folding skinners with full blade-width hollow grinds (cutting better than flat ground). The AUS-8 blades are 3.25" long, about 1" wide, and around 1/8" thick. The BR709 has a one piece zytel handle and costs under $30 at Cumberland knives. The handle of the BR509 is sambar stag with nickel silver bolsters and costs $87.25 at the same place. After a thorough sharpening my BR709 gave me my best pocket knife shave (it clearly beats an Opinel).

Take a look at the 509 on this Browning page:
