I would like to know if any knife makers on here will work on a design with a customer? I've had a design in my head for some time but I am no blade smith. I am new to forums so if I'm going about this wrong I apologize. Would really like some help, thank you in advance.

I'm sure there are plenty of knife makers here willing and able to make a knife to your specs. It may be best to attend a knife show and narrow down the type of knife your looking to have made. Then you can visit personally with those makers displaying similar knives and discuss what you want, budget and expectations on timing. If, as your name suggests, you are from Georgia, you are fortunate to have the biggest and best knife show in the world the first week of June. The Blade Show in Atlanta will have every style and price range you could ever want.

The best place to post would be in the Wanted: Knifemaker / Craftsman / Related Services forum.
But I would suggest posting more information about the knife and your budget or else there may not be any replies.
Too often there are requests to design and make a knife from people who are unrealistic about the cost involved.

As an example;
The other day I received a phone call asking if I knew someone who could make a knife similar to one he had seen in a movie.
Before recommending a maker I asked what budget he had to work with.
Answer was he was going to shop around for his best price (red flag #1)
When I asked what was a price range he was hoping for he told me up to $100. (kiss of death)
I explained that would not cover materials let alone labor.
He said he saw something at the mall that he thought was too expensive.
I politely told him I couldn't think of anyone.

I would like to have a large fixed blade knife made. I have a design of my own, and would like to refine it with someone more experienced in knife making. My budget is somewhere between 300 and 450. I live just outside of Atlanta, Georgia. Any help finding local makers would be greatly appreciated.

Check out John Kiedaish of JK knives, he has a subforum here in the makers section.
Might be the guy your looking for.

Mark, talking about cost of materials, just ordered some propane, 3.99 per gallon, cost of gas out weighs the cost of steel. And you are right most first time knife buyers don't have a clue how expensive materials are, I leave the price stickers on everything I buy so when folks want to just look around they can see how much.

Chris does excellent work and will make you a fine knife but if things don't work out with him, use the contact info. below to get in touch with me.
