What should I get? Keep in mind I've got 500 bux or so and wont be getting more for the foreseeable future.. I need a buffer too so I was thinking of the Grizzly....
What I have right now is a craftsman 2x42 and a HF 1x30

thanks for any guidance folks..

Your best bet is the grizzly 2x72, it is the only one that will let you hollow grind out of the box at that price, that I know of.

Otherwise you're looking at a KMG style machine, and I spent $500 building mine from scratch, and if you didn't have as much time and cheap component sources as I do, it may be more.

I started hollow grinding on my grizzly, and there is pretty steep learning curve. The grizzly is so fast its hard to keep your hand steady at first. I couldn't get my tool rest to square so even resting on that it came out a little uneven. I eventually got it down pretty good, and with a good bit of hand sanding they turned out alright. Watch out of pinch points though, my grizzly was pretty bad for them if I wasn't careful.

I have since moved onto a Pheer variable speed, and I am actually thankful I learned on the grizzly, because it now seems like cake work. Too bad we don't live closer, I still have my grizzly, and I'd be more then willing to help you out with it.

thanks for the replys.. I think I may just wait and try to sell a watch or two and get something better. I just have a feeling I'm going to regret getting the Grizzly grinder..

I didn't regret it, because it is a good, powerful grinder. I did however hit the limitations of the machine fairly quickly, and found myself wanting more, mainly a nice small wheel, variable speed, and a better then average platen.

Ya, I wish you were closer too! It would be great to check out your grinders first hand man..
