I just want to thank all of you who have helped me in this endeavor... I know that I had alot of questions and although many were answered before my time I always found helpful advice.

My fiance and I just rented our first "house" so I will actually be able to take all the knowledge I have gained the past few months and put it to use. We have always rented apartments so this will be a big change for us, One of the deciding factors was Knife making!! I could not find an apartment that would allow me to grind and forge knives.

I will keep every one posted on the new basement shop and send pics along the way. :D

I do have one question about forging though... Where do most of you set up gas forges? I am assuming that the basement would be a bad idea. I do have a florida room with scrrens all around or would I be better off just doing ot outdoors? Thanks again...

I have my forge, anvil, little 110 volt wirefeed welder, roll away toolbox (with attached vice), quench tank, and vermiculite bucket (for annealing) all on rollers. When I want to forge, I roll the entire shop out on the back patio (cement) and do my forge work outside. I have an awning over the porch to keep it "not so bright", so that I can see colors better. When I'm done, I just roll it all back into the shop. It takes me 5 minutes to set up or tear down.

All the forges, anvils, hydraulic presses and etc. are outside in the smithy.
You should talk your Lady into taking a weekend on Cape Cod.;)On your way to the Cape you could stop by my shop.:cool::D

Outdoors.

Thank us after you start getting reminded dinner's ready, asked when are you coming in and told "you ain't touching me looking/smelling like that."

Ahhh the wonderful world of knifemaking. :D

HEHE, I hear that brother! The ole lady has been good so far but lets face it, I haven't made a thing yet.

This weekend will be spent moving in so perhaps the weekend after I can actually get dirty making something.
