Want your folders to "fly" open?

I've seen a lot of discussion on this forum about the best lube to use. I've been a Glock, Sig and S&W armorer for many years and have tried/tested about every lube out there. For your folders try the method I use. I first make sure all factory lube is removed. No need to disassemble, just rinse in alcohol, anything harsher may have an adverse affect on nylon/plastic spacers. When dry, heat the rear of the blade and pivot slightly with a hair dryer just to the point of the metal being slightly uncomfortable to the touch and apply a small drop of Millitec 1 to the inside of the liner on each side and allow it to run down to the pivot then work the blade 3 or 4 times. Let the knife cool completely and wipe off the excess. Take a bottle of Tetra Gun oil and shake it about 10 times longer than you think is necessary and then shake some more. Maybe 5 minutes (for future use, transfer it to a clear plastic bottle so you can see when it's completely mixed) Apply a drop to each side again, let it run down to the pivot and work the blade several times and wipe off excess. I've used this method to free up folders that were very stiff and had them open as smooth as glass. It's the first thing I do to any new knife I get. Benchmade dealers now carry Millitec 1 And Tetra Gun can be purchased at most well stocked gun shops.
No affiliations, your mileage may vary etc. etc.

yeah dont do the blade heating, but do use the tetra on knife and goons - good stuff.......

Why not heat the blade?

Are you afraid of affecting the temper?

Nonesense! To affect the temper, you have to raise the temperature above the final heat treatment. Even the lowest temperature heat treatments in use are above 300F. Water boils a little over 200F. With a hair dryer as suggested, you are not going to get the blade anywhere near hot enough to boil water. So, you'll have at least a hundred degrees of margin.

I agree with Richard. Militec-1 is the best I've used. Tetragun is a close second.

Got a bottle of this stuff from Nakano2. Works great.
Chuck, I think he was saying he does the same thing but hadn't done it with the heating. I don't think he meant not to do it.

I can say I have tried the heating blade with hairdryer and using Militec-1. The results are very good. Like using a Teflon lube, but without the fluff atractor factor! I can't wait to try it a few more times and let the great stuff get right in there and do its stuff! Apparently it works better after 3-4 treatments! WOO HOO!

Thanks, Keith. I've gotten so much good info/advise on this forum so it's just my feeble attempt to repay some of the guys here.

Don't worry Richard.
Your method is MUCH better than MY attempt at helping others with the same topic.

I suggested using Krazy Glue and pissed off more people than Al Gore!
