I dont know where else to post this.....Mods feel free to move as you see fit!

I really want the following:

G10 or Micarta scaled (preferably OD green ...) , liner lock or frame lock, full sized handle, lanyard hole, , ........are you ready for this?...........BEER BOTTLE OPENER! (the opener part and frame can be SS, seeing as it will be subjected to moisture, and not any cutting duties.)

thats right! i want to pull out a full sized "knife" out of my pocket and flick open a bottle opener!

be nice if you somehow make a "wave" feature or a meybe a round hole to open it with......... :)

think of a Emerson Snubby, but instead of a blade there is a nukeproof bottle opener.

following me?

cost?

anyone want to make it?

OOOH that would be nice but the Nanny Country i live in REALLLY frowns on Autos.......i prefer manual. :)

I wish I did folders!

I've given thought to doing a friciton folder opener this winter when I plan to tyr my hand at them in my "copious free time" (which could easily mean winter 2010 at this rate)

I'll tell you how to make an automatic one yourself that would cost very little. Order a DDRBL3 kit from Knifekits - $57. Get the green G-10 scales option - $20. Order a max-toruqe coil spring -$3 . Have David at Greatlakeswaterjet cut you out a beer bottle opener to replace the blade. The wider end of the bottle opener should fit between the standoffs if you leave out the middle one (You don't want the bottle blade al that long anyway). It will project a bit from both sides, so it will be clear that the auto is not a knife. If you absolutely don't want an auto, just do the same thing with any of darrel's standard larger liner lock/frame lock folder kits . The most work involved will be a little finishing on the beer blade. Heck, my daughter still bartends occasionally. I might make her one of these for Christmas, so if you are interested, I'll make two.

Just use your lighter.

Talk to Butch Harner (butcher_block here on the forums). I bet he could do something really cool for you.

Bladsmth - Does the DDRBL3 kit have the "well" for the coil spring already milled?

i'm with deker on this one...i'd definately talk to butch.....i bet he could make something wicked....stacy has a more cost effective solution though i think.....it would have to be auto if it were for me....that'd be cool....i'd wanna jazz it up though with some fancy scales maybe a damascus bolster though:D....ryan

 I specifically mentioned Butch because we've had some conversations about just this sort of thing, so I know he's thought about it already. Not to mention, he makes a darned fine "monster folder" :)

u got that right.....he makes a mean folder.....especially for someone who's made i think a handful of them....butch please yell at me if i'm wrong.....when i saw one i thought he had been making them for years....i think the one i saw was the second one he made.....ryan

The DDR-BL3 is ready to drop the spring in. No additional work is needed. I highly customize about ten or 12 a year. Full filework- including the pivot and button , reshape the blade (removing the thumb stud), adding the spring, mammoth or ivory scales, gold screws, etc. You can go on the cheap by leaving the thumb studs on, use the the G-10 scales and add a spring . You will have a heavy duty user auto for about $90. Add the spine piece for another ten bucks if you like a closed model. All the work can be done by hand if you don't have a power grinder/sander. I sell a lot to police and firemen. The police like mammoth and Black G-10, the firemen like red or orange G-10. The liners have the holes for a lanyard ,too, if you want one. There are several other options like a disguised button, gemstone buttons and thumb screws, etc.

I'm aware of your predicament. I've got the same rules in Ontario.

The kit Stacy suggested is what I had in mind. You have no trouble getting that here, just order the spring and the kit separately.

I would take Stacy up on his offer. Just ship spring-less with an overtightened pivot.
The completed item is a-ok here. I remember when i was a kid, there was an abundance of Italian stiletto combs...just for the cool factor.

You know how to open a bottle of beer with a lighter?
(someone should be able to teach you)
Any spine of any knife (exept a round one) can be used is the same way.
It scores high on the 'cool factor'

Hold the bottle in your left hand, with just enough space between the cap and and joint of your indexfinger. Place the spine of the knife app. 45degrees
Now a short, quick snap with the right hand (moving the wrist down) should send the cap flying.
I've managed to hit te ceiling with the cap without spilling beer :D

On the CRK section of the Manufacturers forum there is a photo of a Sebenza opening a beer bottle [without the blade being opened.]. I use my Sebenza a little differently, works fine.

Stacy,
Which size of spring do you get for the DDR-3BL? There are 3 sizes and I can't tell which one will fit that kit.
Thanks,
Gavin

Could you post a link, please, I can't seem to find it.

Sweet! Thanks Stacy! I had been kicking around the idea of trying to make an auto for a while but it was fairly daunting. This will be a good first step.
