Wanted: Dan's "how to sharpen" CD

Methinks there will be many, many requests for this one. One possible solution: If the entire CD is too big for any one person's web space to mirror, suggest having several people with web space volunteer to host different parts of it. Then people wanting to download it could visit a bunch of sites to get the whole thing. I would be willing to volunteer web space for this. I have 15 MB of my allotted space unused.

One thing with my webspace is that they limit how much data that can be transferred from my site. Anything over 100 mb and I think they start charging me extra.
:grumpy:

Dunno how much though. I should find out.

Ah.. tis true.

I reckon I could zip it and see if someone else with a g-mail address can recieve it. Anyone want to try?

Dang.....y'all are gettin' pretty organized....

olpappy - the new CD will be 2 CDs actually. One for sharpening, one for refinishing.

Folks enjoyed the videos...but wanted more commentary....so that's what will be on it....besides the oodles of tips/techniques, etc.

I have gmail, but I don't see any options for sharing files (if you're at work, don't go to gspot.com, trust me on that).

The other option I thought of was opening a new gmail account and uploading the files to it (I found a program that basically maps it as a drive on your computer). Then give the account name and password to those who want to download. They can log in as the account owner and download the files to their own computer. I don't know if they allow multiple logins at once though, might have to make a list and go one by one.

I am still a modem user at home so these big file transfer options do not often occur to me.

Yiterp, I did get your mail and will send you a cd if we as a forum can't find another way.

I thought of bittorrent but I don't know how to start a file, plus my uplink sucks here at the office. I could try it if people can use it to d/l, and nothing else better is proposed.

I figured just zip the file and mail it as an attachment. It'll take forever to upload and download but if it works it'll be in my price range (free).
:)

Depending on the type of bittorrent program you're using, you make a torrent file for the cd and post it, email it or whatever to whoever wants it.
They click the torrent file and start downloading from your system (and sharing to others in the meantime).
But if your uplink sucks, it could take a while for more people to start sharing.

Welp... The Gmail drive thing can't take files larger than 10mb. Even trying to attach and mail, it didn't seem to like the big 38mb movie, much less the whole thing zipped up.

I think our options may be a nice person with lots of web space, bittorrent, or CDs by mail. Or just wait a few months for Dan's new blockbuster production :D

Some guy at work says that Gmail can handle file transfers up to 1gigapopsicle. If it's zipped all the ***.exe's have to be changed though.

Dan,

Are you planning to have a table at Blade? If yes, why don't you sell your videos there. I'm sure there would be other people interested.

I know it probably would be too difficult to do at Blade, if you could, it would be nice if you could sharpen some Khuks there also. Murray Carter does this with his knives and also gives a seminar. I didn't make his last year because I wanted to go to another confilicting seminar. His was jammed packed as I finished with the other and passed by the room.

As you might surmise, I am lousy at sharpening knives.

hdwrlover - that's a great long-term goal, one I think I will take on.

However, right now, I'm just concentrating on getting some name recognition first - tough sometimes at a large Blade Show packed with scrutinizing buyers and other, more excellent knifemakers.
