Hello Nick,
I am not sure how familiar you are with Custom Emerson knives so forgive me if this seems redundant. The CQC-5 is a rare knife in an already rare line of custom knives. Ernie has made fewer of these than some of his other cutoms making the CQC-5 highly sought after by Emerson collectors.

Whats more Emerson has stopped taking custom orders alltogether which leaves fewer of these knives to be had in the forseeable future.
That said the CQC-5 will be a tough find.

If you are looking for this knife as a collectable then it is worthy of pursuit. If you are looking for a very, very expensive pocket knife then you are still on target. Beyond that I would consider another knife that is cheaper and more attainable.

I have heard of dealers asking $1600 to $1800. Having said that . . . I haven't heard of anyone actually paying that.

In the secondary market a knife is worth:

a) What the buyer is willing to actually pay for it

and

b) What the seller is willing to actually take for it

I could ask $20,000 for one, but until some sucker actually coughs up the bucks, it's still a $525 knife. And just because I found said sucker, doesn't mean everyone else will too.

My advise is to figure out what it's worth to you. Set a price your actually willing to pay (or as I call it, your "pain threshold") and contact dealers that have or in most cases, may get them in (like Les).

Keep you eye peeled on the forum here, customs come up for sale or trade occasionally. Don't be afraid to email your offer into the seller, you may be the best offer they get despite what they ask originally. Worth that can happen is they send you a nice email saying that they "appreciate the offer, but no thanks".

Good luck in your quest.

John

John; you must not forget that Nick is a covert ops super agent working for the Singapore government...
I am sure they´ll pay whatever needed to make their own 007 happy.
Or maybe he´d be better off with a new set of nappies?

Ahhhhhhh . . . . should have looked at the link above I see.

Too bad "Q" died, he would have one.

However, the advice stands for anyone looking for high end knives on the secondary market.

John
