I am in the market for a 1911 pistol, i have never owned one before. I have other pistols such as Glocks, a couple Rugers and a few others but am kinda new to 1911's. So far i have looked at several Springfield's, and Kimber's. I thought that with the experience from some of you guys i could make this an easier process. Here is what it must have 4" or larger barrel, 45 cal, and am open to blued or stainless, also would like to be able to add upgrades to it in the future. I hope that covers everything, otherwise let me know. Would like for it to also be under $1000 or close to it.

Wanna save $500.......Look at Taurus 1911. I know, I know.....all you super leet gun guys poo poo Taurus in general. They really did a nice job with this gun though. I have a Kimber, a Colt and the Taurus and it is at least as reliable as the other 2 if not more so.

I have probably 5000 rounds through the Taurus and have not had issues. It is a standard 1911 platform, so any parts/upgrades that would fit the others will fit it as well.

SA is the only 1911 I will buy, maybe its just me but they always seem to shoot better than the others.

I'll +1 the Springfield
I have never had a problem with mine, it's accurate and reliable.
No need to spend $1000 on one

5.56--- Just get a tri-square.
I've always wanted a Colt .45.
Post what you get.

I have had both SA and Kimber. You can't go wrong with either one in my opinion. My only regret with the Kimber, I bought the Custom II, i should have spent the extra money and bought the TLE.

I've got a bit less than 600 in this '98 Kimber SS compact and it's dead on accurate and I've never had it jam.

Get the Springer and never look back. Buy the Mil-spec and trick it out...or buy a loaded model. Either or...Springers are great 1911's out of the box. Have owned 3 different models of the SA 1911's....the mil-spec being my first and a great stock 1911!!!

Congrats on your first 1911....wont be the last:thumbup::D

had an sa and could kick myself for selling it. Save yourself some money and go with a Springfield - I ran about 2500 rounds through mine and never had a problem.

I would go with Springfield, mil-spec/loaded. I've seen a couple of TRP's going for $1100 in the last couple of weeks.

I have a Kimber and I love it
but then I shot my dad's S&W and it is so much smoother to fire
but I'm an amatuer at best when it comes to shooting:D

ive got a springfield i had richard heinie sights and a full recoil guide rod added thing runs great never had one jam in maybe 2500 rds.

Most guys that know 1911s will suggest Springfield in that price range. Get one that is all steel (Either stainless or carbon... your choice) and you'll have a wonderful starting place to build on should you want to tweak it. I don't mean to bash Kimber but their quality has been real iffy lately IMHO. And I've read their customer service is no better. I wouldn't buy one anyway. Never heard anything but good stuff out of Springers. And the few I own have run like champs. I just picked up an Ed Brown SF with a rail so that's pretty much my favorite 1911 right now. But for $1,000.00 a Springfield Operator or the like would be hard to beat. If you wanna mount a light on it do look into the Operator. It's a heck of a weapon.

Kimber, Springfield...God they are nice.

I had a budget when shopping around and I had a slight issue...I loved the 1911 but the mag size wasn't all what I wanted in a gun.

I opted for a Para Ordnance P14 which had a 14+1 size...Which made me all warm and fuzzy - http://www.paraord.com/new/product_pistol.php?id=69 I didn't have much so I bought a used one...6,000 rounds later I'm thinking I did ok with my pick.

No matter how you go (Springfield or Kimber) your going to get a EXCELLENT gun, but if your like me and want a bit more usable bang for your buck....Check out Paras.
