I don't even own any knife from Ontario rat and I'd recommend it just based on the phrase I see it gets.

Not a bad idea. I've had several; gifted one to a good friend and he loves it; carries it every day. Great knife.

As someone already mentioned, the RAT 2 is always a good choice. Another option in the $25 price range is the CRKT Drifter. They come in either G10 or Stainless handles and are a solid little knife that's friendly to carry in most any environment. If you can push your budget a little over $30 per knife you could look at the Kershaw Link or Skyline...both made in USA with decent fit and finish and come with Kershaw's excellent warranty. You could also look at the Tenacious/Persistence line but Spydies are a little iffy to give as gifts unless you know the recipient is comfortable with hole deployment and a wide pocket profile.
