Not looking for the recent stuff that TKS sold, it's not the same IMO, the weave is different. Good stuff, but I want some of the first batch.


If anybody has any, I'll buy it, or trade for it. I've got all kinds of vintage micartas (rag, ivory, butterscotch, etc.), wood, ivory, pearl, whatever. Guaranteed I'll have something you want, or I'll pay cash.


Let me know if anybody has any they'll part with, don't have to be huge pieces.

The vintage stuff look so nice with great texture! But I wonder what makes them unique that can not be reproduced today? The fabrics? resin? or it has to be aged?
 
The first run weave they chose to go with looks really great. Definitely stands apart from the newer stuff.

Yeah the original fabric was a 2 strand over 1 weave, with thinner, and very particular looking yarn. The new stuff is pretty standard burlap, and just not as cool.

The resin from the newer stuff doesn't seem quite as clear and take as high a polish either, but I'm speculating as I've never actually used the original batch.
