I am just curious, have any of you bought a specific knife, or investigated buying that knife after seeing it on a movie/TV and just thought it looked good? A similar post is on the Spyderco Forum and is very interesting.
Thanks
Eric

I bought my first Spydeco after seeing one in movie with Tommie Lee Jones. I can't remember the name, it was a John Grisham novel adaptation I think.

I feel in love with the throwing knife used in one of the Rambo movies with Sly Stallone. The throwing knife used in the movie was made by Jimmy Lile along with the famous Rambo knife. I bought the United Cutlery version as it was all I could find.

A few years later, while attending a show, I saw one in a display case here in Florida. Knowing that this dealer does not carry United Cultery I asked him if I could see it. Sure enough it was the one from the movie. So I bought it. A quick call to Jimmy's wife confirmed it was the real deal!

I forgot to mention in my original question that I really got interested in Spyderco's after seeing one on an episode of X-Files( I have already posted this on Spyderco Forum, sorry for the repeat)several years ago. I don't know which spydie it was but am now hooked on all things sharp.

I bought my brother a SOG SEAL 2K for his birthday last year. Not because I saw it in a movie, just because he liked it...
Then he and I saw the movie "Soldier" with Kurt Russel and Russel uses a SEAL 2K to kill a few guys, he loses the knife after he sticks it through a guy's helmet into his eye to kill him-really cool scene!
My brother thought it was awesome! He thanked me again for the knife...
It is a work horse, even if it is not "perfect!"

Allright, no laughing...

There's a knife in the newest Disney version of "Annie" that Rooster Hannigan clicks out, and back in again. It's a D/A OTF of some type. At first sight I thought it was one of those cheap NATO things. On further review, it's something cool I think. Can't get a good look at it, and my daughter won't let me freeze frame to see if I can make it out. (She's 3, very demanding...)

Anyway, just remember,

The sun'll come out, tomorrow.....

The movie Predator has some great blade scenes in it. The bowie that the native-american point guy has really piques my interest. Don't know what it is though. He carries it inverted on the left chest. Each guy on the team has an awesome fb. Schwarzeneger swipes through a fire hose with one motion. I think I might rent it again....

A knife is by default a tool, it's only a weapon when a human chooses to make it so.

That fight scene between Charlie Sheen and Tom Beringer in Platoon makes me want a CS Defender!

I'm really going to date myself here, but the first knife I fell in love with was Jim Bowie's knife in the movie "Davy Crockett" I never did see "The Iron Mistress" with Alan Ladd. If you say, "Knife!" I say "Bowie" that is the knife. The knife that comes closest to the knife I remember is a Randall Smithsonian Bowie, I should be buying one this year, I only had to wait 46 years.

I had the chance once to get the indiana jones knife and it was my favorite (i was 11 years old) but i didnt get it and now i cant find it anywhere. i should have got it and if i find it, i will.

Hey! Lay off my Hosey COW!!!

My passion for hand made knives was kindled by seeing an issue of Blade Magazine several years ago that featured knives made by Daniel Winkler that were used in the movie 'The Last of the Mohican's'. I loved that movie. Seeing Daniel's work in the magazine is what made me aware of the whole art of custom knifemaking. I skipped right past the usual fascination with better and better quality production knives, and started collecting relatively inexpensive forged custom fixed blades. I finally managed to obtain one of Daniel's knives several years later.

Like PhilL, the movie knife that got me going was "The Iron Mistress", the Bowie Knife in its many, may forms. Movies and tv shows like "The Jim Bowie Show", "Davy Crockett", "The Alamo", and whatever else have always fascinated me and I have always loved Bowies.

I loved the knives in LAST OF THE MOHICANS too! My favorite is in "Legends Of The Fall". That movie has excellent knife scenes. I couldn't find a replica, so I found some similar elk stag handle material and made one myself. It never hurts to improvise.

I can't say that I have ever wanted a knife that I saw on TV, BUT swords are a different thing all together. The white handled katana from Highlander and the sword from Blade are at the top of my short list.

I forgot about "Last of the Mohicans" and "Legends of the Fall" I love both of those movies. What was I thinking, I have those on tape somewhere. Looks like it will be a late night watching movies for me.

The knives used in "Predator" were all made by Jack Crain from Wheatherfod, Texas. He also made the knives used in "Commando".

After seeing the movie "the Hitcher", I really wanted Rutger Hauer's OTF auto. I finally bought a few from the original "EDGE Company" for like $20 a piece. They were really crappy, But for 1988 they were pretty cool. Long before anyone ever heard of Microtech. I was the only guy in high school who had a knife like that.

I have wanted a Medeci style auto ever since I saw one in a movie a while back, but the quality of the ones that are currently produced is very poor.

I guess I'll have to until CMK starts working its magic on Pumas.

Either that or I'll get a custom.
