Wanted: Whimpiest knife on the planet

I got one from a Flea market aloooooooooooooong time ago before I learned to appreciate the finer things in life (spydercos), it was a buck copy for 10.00 that had frostwood handle scales made by a company named Maxam. That thing dulled every time I used it and one day the one of the handle scales fell off. Well it had a lifetime warrenty and the wholesaler was in my town so I took it back. When I walked in the place I looked over at thier knife rack and saw that nothing cost more than 5.00 . Then there was the cheap swiss army that fell apart at the seams when I used the screwdriver. But from these cheap worthless POS knive I learned a good lesson. Buy quality and buy once, buy cheap crap and youll keep replacing over and over again...............

I don't know about the cliphanger, but the shrade beast is the ugliest, cheapest knife of all time.

Another whimpy knife is the Schrade Lake & Walker 2. When I saw the ads for the original BG-42 version, I had hoped for an economical model, but I was sorely dissapointed when I saw the SLW2. For one thing, every model I saw had various levels of blade play and the action was stiff on some models and loose on others. Also, the safety switch is positioned in the most inconvenient area and the finish on the blades were like those on cheap flea market knives. I don't know if the workmanship was better in the limited run of BG-42 models, but the SLW2 is a joke. I think that Schrade should stick to traditional pocket knives and fixed blade models and not even bother with linerlock type knives. Between the SLW2, and the horrible Cliphanger series, these are some of the worst American made folders I've seen.

I have owned a couple of pretty bad CRKT knives. Since a lot of people around here like them, I will temper my comments accordingly.

The K.I.S.S. is a dangerous little piece of work. Built well, but with inferior steel and, as I said, a dangerous design. I also owned one of their early knives that was nothing to write home about.

Probably one of the worst of all time was a "Nato Military" OTF auto that I bought in Tijuana. The blade wobbled so bad, that it functioned better as a miracca than a knife. It fell apart in very little time.

As a kid, I owned some real losers. I can't remember who made them as I did not care at that time. Luckily, junky knives often go to kids who like to throw their pocketknives ninja style at trees. I went throu a lot of junk that way, and never ruined a good knife. Ironically, I was doing justice to such junky knives unknowingly.

By the way, I owned one of those pitiful survival knives (also bought in Tijuana) with the blade bolted to the hollow handle. Damn good thing I never relied on it for survival!

Cheers...

My Sergeant at work carries a Chinese knock-off.........of a S&W SWAT. How sad is that?

Bokers Gemini series,

I actually handled a bunch today and just about all of them could be closed with hand pressure on the blade. It seems that the liner is just a thin piece of metal screwed to one side of the handle. All this for $60

I heard about that HSN incident also...but sadly didn't see it!

I do get a kick out of watching sometimes when they have the "Collector Knife Specials"...with 100 different POS varieties that "RETAIL" for $550.00 ( $5.50/knife).., but they are gonna let us have the whole freight car for $199.00....PRICELESS!!

I should go ahead and toss in my worst all time knife purchase. Drum Roll Please..........

The Paragon X-9 Parabow use to sell for around $200-250 retail. You would thing that with the hefty price tag and the positive reviews it recieved in the press that the knife would at least hold together. So I was surprised when one of the rubber scales poped off as I gently opened the knife. It turns out that the rubber scales are only glued on (glued rubber to flat metal!).

Next to go was the plastic bow attachment. That piece has a plastic nut that tread into the heavy steel bolster on the knife. As you can imagine the plastic nut strips very easily. But don't bother to customer service. I finally got through to them on the 15th attempt (they kept forgeting to return the call?) and it went something like this:

Me: Hi, I would like to buy a replacement bow bracket for an X-9 Parabow.

Rep: Oh we don't have any extra bow brackets for the knife

Me: Can you order any/ has the knife been discontinued?

Rep: Oh no, we still make the knife, we just dont carry any spare parts. Would you like to buy another knife?

Me: Another X-9 Parabow??

Rep: Yes

Me: NO! NO! NO! No way!

That is what I deserve for buying a goofy knife in the first place.
