Wanting a beefy folder at or under $200!

Another recommendation for the ZT 0550 here. It's not as pretty as some of the others, but it is a very robust tool. The S35VN has been a great surprise-- I expected it to be great, but it has proven to be a perfect mix of edge retention, toughness (yes, I have done prying with it), and ease of maintenance. The handle really fills the hand. I thought that might be a bit much until the first time I had to spend an hour straight using it. Zero hand fatigue, total comfort. The action on mine is glassy once I defeat the sticky detent. Having had time to break it in and practice, I can flick it open quickly and consistently now. Lock up is air tight. Lateral support... washers and open position stops... Awesome.

This is about as tough as it gets.

I have a ZT 0561. It is fairly beefy and will do anything a knife is intended to do for longer than you will be alive with no issues. The detent on mine is very weak and I do not like that about it at all. Overall great knife that fits your criteria. It's a lot of knife for $200 or less

I would respectfully disagree with the LS SR-1A. I own an SR2A and have handled the 1A...it is not beefy at all. Great blade, but the handle is slippery and the action is...okay, but not buttery. The one-piece aluminum body is durable, but this knife is not built like a tank like the ZT 0560. I would say it is more elegant than beefy. I own both and this is just my opinion.

We will have to agree to disagree then :). While I would not put the SR1 in the pocket brick/tank category, it is by no means a sissy and was designed and built as a user. It may not be massive but it is stout.

Have you seen that ZT550 hard-use/abuse video on Youtube? I knew they were tough, but the results surprised even me. The brand-new Adamas on one of his other videos didn't do as well.

DPx HEST/F has a very beefy blade, it's one of my favorites (especially the MilSpec).

Another often overlooked beefy knife is the Ontario XM series. They are a lot of knife for under $100.

I really like the above choices, can't go wrong with most any of these. Two recent purchases for me. Hogue EX04, Kizer GTi Ki4416A2.

Lol..yes we will! Agree its not a sissy at all..its a very solid well built folder. I definitely would call it a daily use knife...I just would not consider it "beefy". Guess that's a subjective opinion as far as what constitutes "beefy". Still, a great knife.

Does anyone have any thoughts on the Hogue EX-02? Although it is 154cm, it seems like a rather beefy knife.

The ZT0560 & 0561 are right at my budget, but fit just about every need.
I used to have an aluminum, drop point, 3.5 inch EX 01 and it is a very solid beast of a knife. The button lock is nice for easy one handed use plus the action is buttery smooth. I would highly reccomend any of the hogue knives they are a solid company.

I had the opportunity to fondle a BM Adamas Auto, at a local LEO store, this morning. I wasn't a fan of the disproportionate blade to handle thickness. I'll be honest and say that it actually felt small to me. I have massive hands, I guess.

I've been bitten by the DPx bug. The DPx HEST/F milspec has everything, except a 4" blade (which is ok). The shorter blade would be much better for EDC.

The HEST/F is my only "small" regular carry. I'm like you, I prefer the bigger stuff, but the HEST is a big small blade.

They are supposed to have a HEFT/F sometime this year which would be a larger blade and a flipper to boot.

ever since the wife bought me my MilSpec my ZTs have sat in the safe. the DPX is very well made, fits my hand perfectly and is as smooth as butter. definitely my favorite beefy folder. *gasp*

The ZT 0300 series remains a personal favorite for a big, beefy, badass folder. The 0560/0561 and their variants are also really awesome larger folders. They're a bit more carry-friendly (surprisingly comfortable for a knife of its size) than the 0300. The 0550 models are also fantastic. They're a bit chunkier than the 0560 (probably due to the flat handles vs. 3D machined). I do find myself using the 0550 a bit more than my 0560. The 0200 is probably the largest, bulkiest knife I own. Great ergos, but a bit cumbersome for pocket carry (at least for me).

It must have been a sign from the heavens! I was about to pull the trigger on a brand new blade, until I glanced back at the main page of BF and there it was... DPx Hest/F Milspec for sale! Needless to say, I'm happier that I picked it up from another BF member and saved a few pesos along the way!

Extremely happy with my new purchase! Thanks for all the help guys! A ZT0560 or 0561 is on my list next!
